Spotify listen:
his fifteenth solo set.
was struggling to put it in a genre so I put it here.
album opens up with something experimental almost avantgarde and my thoughts were
'if this crap continues I wont be buying this one, ive had enough of this experimental stuff".
in comes track two, a typical knees up, foot tapping tune...some relief to hear Paul Weller!
tracks 3-6, hearing a bit of funk and soul with hints of jazz, a more danceable Weller I guess,
those tracks have a blended Style Council sound (if that's the best way to describe them).
track seven, an almost Ray Davies sound, eight has a typical Weller feel to it.
track nine, the first single, sounds like the 'house' project that Polydor refused to release back in 1989
and caused him to split TSC and leave the label, strange how times change, he's back on the label.
the final track on the regular album is another little typical Weller track i'd expect him to close an album with,
acoustic guitar then in comes piano and finally strings, good stuff...
on to the 'deluxe version' tracks....
first track, instrumental.
second track, has an upbeat folkie feel, has a bit of a Small Faces feel
third track has Weller in acoustic sombre mood.
then two instrumental versions of album tracks...
overall,
I neither like nor dislike this album, its just 'blah'.
ploughman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-vkzHHgB90 Paul Weller going all Small Faces on me!
equanimity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2YKW43ZeLM a bit of a Ray Davies thing happening here
