Should Music Discussion be so underpopulated?
#1
Even though I enjoy my time here I often find myself wishing there were more posts and a larger membership. Not only to be exposed to a wider range of music but to interact with a wider range of opinions. I may be wrong, but it appears the ‘owners’ of this site aren’t very interested in having more traffic pass through. If I’m wrong someone please let me know.

It’s that peculiar feeling I sometimes have of talking into and empty room that has me thinking this way. Also at times like playing an instrument to an audience of zero.

I have often thought the same thing

unfortunately most of the music chat forums that were around a decade ago have bitten the bullet and closed but it seems the members of those forums did not relocate to others.
I see it as a sign of the times, call it regression or progress, but I suspect the attitudes of people towards these forums has waned for a number of reasons which I can only guess.

I know of only a couple of other genuine music forums that seem to be doing okay and when I browse them I find a lot of the posts diverge from music too much (maybe that's what they want, a base being music but also a lot of other chat) ie: they tend to be more of a cyber meeting place for general chin-wag.
personally, im here for the music as the members here are music lovers and I don't really have that in my real life. if I want to discuss politics. sports or other world events in detail then I will discuss that with family and friends.
that however, doesn't stop me putting up the odd comment but I will not engage in anything I believe could cause disharmony by adding opinion on a music forum.

(when I think of more to add to your opening post I will add.)

You’ve arrived a very similar conclusions I have. One to think about is subjects closely related to music and include them. Such as audio ( once called hi-fi), recording technology, live concerts, instruments ancient and modern etc. Maybe just one or two could be added as sections? Speaking of sections there’s something odd about the way they’re laid out on the home page. But maybe there’s a reason for that I need to know about before I open my big mouth?
By the way, some music forums that are surviving are actually sub-sections of audio/recording forums run by magazines such as English Gramophone & US Absolute Sound Magazines.

Funny but did they have to include Jeremy Clarkson? For some reason he gets on my nerves. Now the cute little one, that’s a different story - - - - - -

Back to the subject at hand - - - One thing I’d like to see is a permanent thread (stickie?) simply providing links to interesting sites, news, music reviews etc.
Would it be breaking forum rules to give links like this?
Maybe too political? But hey, since when did rock, blues etc avoid politics?

I give up !
The older one gets the less crap one is willing to put up with.
This idea music can be somehow so ‘pure’ as to be separated from politics, ideology and theology may be a comforting delusion. However, to delude oneself music can always be experienced in total isolation from the world and what has and is happening out there is like sticking your head up your own ars**le.
For many years my view of the human race has been very dark. I suggest as a species we have arrived at tipping point about to trigger our own extinction .
I’m leaving you lot then to happily continue dancing around the deck of the Titanic.
Why am I pratting on like this? A number of reasons. One is it’s impossible to discuss music without refering to it’s wider context. Anyone remember the idea of ’the protest song’?
How many of you know a large proportion of 18th century opera was thinly disguised criticism of the aristocracies murderous oppression of the masses?
I could go on and on but will simply leave you with these :-
