Sorry for such a stupid question and my bad English.
Suppose,we could arrange all music by its âqualityâ, influence on people, etc. Suppose, there are some music compositions which are better thanthe others, some are really bad, some are good. Suppose, this doesnot depend on the popularity of the music composition.
Isthere any research that confirms that most of âreally goodâmusic compositions are a (very?) little known? That confirms thatmost of well-known music compositions are pretty âbadâ? (Iused a word âwell-knownâ. I donât know, can I say âpopularâ,I think itâs confusing because of the genre âpop-musicâ)
If there is some research that confirms that, should âreally goodâ bands stay unknown in the future? Will theirmusic be worse if they will become well-known (mainstream)?
PS.I donât relate this question to popular pieces of classical music.

Hi
I have seen few scientific researches on Music stating whether it's bad, good and whether they by being any of them is more or less known - or vice versa
This is actually the only article I've seen that even comes near this subject - but I can't tell exactly how trustworthy this research is and also, it's dealing with the feelgood value in the Music
Feel good music

The Beatles mastered the 3 minute pop song (yes Hey Jude was seven minutes plus) but not in an overbearing annoying way! Their songs definitely have quality and popularity 46 years after their breakup! Unforgettable original gorgeous melodies! Too bad they weren't Canadian! lol,,and NO I am not living in a time capsule...I listen to today's music also. They will be remembered in the annals of music history for a very long time!

Bands used to become popular because they produced good music. I think these days people/bands become popular because of marketing. People are not making decisions on what music they consume because of the quality of it but because the media machine tells them they must like it. There are still bands producing quality music but they cannot get noticed that easily anymore because the markets are swamped with third rate rubbish like Kanye West, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber. The main difference these days is that you do not need talent to make it big anymore, just flashy cheap marketing. Hell half the people on the charts can't even play an instrument properly. Technology is to blame as well. It's just too easy for someone to become a 'producer' these days, even though they don't even know what a producer's real role is. Sign of the times - and it isn't going to get any better. We now have a generation that believes that quality does not matter as long as the money rolls in. Sad situation indeed.

I suppose the thing I am really trying to say is I don't hear much emotional intelligence in either the music or the lyrics these days. It does exist, but it's very rare.

Too true CH. Would love to hear what Ruby has to say on this, because no matter what the subject is, she always makes you think. A rare bird indeed. And the word 'bird' is not being used as a synonym for 'babe' or, God forbid, 'chick' but rather a creature whose feathers are just that much brighter. (yes - I stole the line from The Shawshank Redemption so sue me). LOL

Shawshank Redemption is without a doubt the "greatest movie" ever IMO...
hey Jerome, theres two other Stephen King adaptations you should watch...Misery (james cann/cathy bates) and Delores Clairborne (cathy bates), both are superb IMO,
obviously not as good as Shawshank, but great thriller's nonetheless.
