The Byrds
#1
I have a kind of love/hate relationship with this band - more on that later when I find the time for a proper full-length post.

Meanwhile you people might like to check out a recent podcast of a programme I have mentioned a few times; this one features several tracks from the album The Notorious Byrd Brothers, and I think it shows just how good they were at their peak, whether they were doing their own songs or someone else's. Listen especially to their version of the Carole King/Gerry Goffin song "Going Back".

(Podcasts are available for about a month from date of broadcast.)

...which, as you may know, has by far the oldest lyrics of any song ever to top the US charts. The words are from the book of Ecclesiastes as rendered in the King James bible, published in 1611; the original book of Ecclesiastes is traditionally thought to date from the 10th century BC.

Pete Seeger, who wrote the music and adapted the lyrics to it, donated 45% of the royalties to a religious charity, saying "In addition to the music, I did write six words.."

But... ummm... did you listen to anything in that link I posted? Anyone have an opinion on the Byrds, good or bad? I'm trying to generate some discussion here, but I'm not going to do it all by myself.

I'll get a chance to listen tomorrow mate...
Haven't even listened to any new releases this week yet.

Yes I did know about those lyrics, I found out about them only a few months ago,
CudtifFM used it as a quiz question (Peter Waltham's morning show"
:he's on 9am to midday mon-Fri)...
You would remember Waltham for sure from the early days of Perth TV/radio, right?
