Hey everyone...

I wanted some recommendations for some new Psychedelic rockbands similar in veins to Pink Floyd.

Thanks.

Well, if you go a bit back in time I could recommend you "Cream". The former Supergroup consisting of Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce.

You might some of their songs, such as "Sunshine of Your Love" "White Room" and "Strange Brew".

Sunshine of Your Love
YouTube - Cream- Sunshine of Your Love

You might aswell check out The Band, The Byrds, The Grateful Dead etc.
I always thought the good thing about the guitar was that they didn't teach it in school.

cream is one of my fave bands.. love the white room..

I would prefer bands of older times as well.. Porcupine Trees is a nice band, I liked their Lazarus & Pure narcotic..
haven't heard much of them though... will surely check all these suggestions out..

BTW anyone here likes Apartment 26.. In the "Hallucinating" album, there is an untitled track.. it's awesome.. If you want I can mail it to you guys to check it out if in case anyone hasn't heard

Soft Machine are pretty old school and I like what I have heard of them, which, admittedly, isn't much. I think the band Gong (which was highly influential to Acid Mothers Temple, I think to the point of even gigging with them at times) are also a seminal psychedelic rock band that formed with members of Soft Machine. They might be worth checking out.

Soft machine is good.. just heard "love makes sweet music"..

Gong sounds nice.. just checked out a video to How to stay alive.. really nice.
I am looking for something along the lines what Music head suggested.. & his suggestions for songs really helped me to check out the band Porcupine Trees even more... as I had heard only one song of theirs before "Lazarus"

Btw i am loving all the suggestions, when i break free from this current phased out state of mind.. i could probably use the other recommendations sometime soon to please my ears.. coz they all rocked.

thanks

I'll put my fogey hat on and make a few suggestions regarding early bands

- Yes. The Prog label is undeserved at times

- Steve Hillage, one of the Gong guitarists, made some good solo stuff

- King Crimson, if the Soft Machine approach appeals

- 13th Floor Elevators for the best of Psychedelia from the US

- The Doors for a more Bluesy take on things

- Roy Harper. A lot of his stuff is acoustic & folkie, but there are some good Psychedelic-ish albums made with his various bands. (He sang Have a Cigar on the Floyd's Wish You Were Here album)
