I'm Nolan, and I just found this website after searching "music discussion" hoping something good would come up. I'm really excited to exchange music recommendations and tastes. To be honest, I haven't been actively listening to music for a very long time, like a couple years, I would say. I was introduced to music at a somewhat young age, though, when my dad would play his favorite rappers in the car. Right now, I pretty much only listen to Hip Hop regularly, but I am trying to get into every genre. If anyone has suggestions for albums, that would be great! Especially Heavy Metal, as I'm having some trouble with that (although I did think The Satanist by Behemoth was pretty ******* fantastic).
See ya around!

You're in good company here liking heavy metal and all metal variants.* Later on, if your tastes broaden we're here for that too. You mentioned one group--care to expand--some tunes they've done, who they resemble. etc.? Very much a give-and-take Board.
* For example this from this week: http://www.music-discussion.com/showthre...om-Finland << "Search" can be a good friend here.

Thanks for the shout out Crazy! Welcome to the great MD, Nolan! I listen to it all...prefer complex underground hip hop, Common, DJ Krush, Sage Francis, Madlib, Madvillian, Aesop Rock for starters. At the moment I am listening to some blues, smooth jazz and some modern hard rock.
As for the adventurous and exciting world of heavy metal, as you mentioned, The Satanist by Behemoth is fabulous! Good choice...I see you don't mind the growls and screams associated with heavy metal! I really can't understand the lyrics...but it represents extreme music! To me the grunts, screams and growls are just a part of the overall effect of the music. There are a lot of metal bands that use clean singing or normal singing also.
Opeth are a fantastic metal band! All of their 11 albums are worth a listen! They started out using mainly the harsh vocals but lately they have turned to clean singing. Blackwater Park is possibly their most popular album. I saw Black Sabbath live last year! You are probably familiar with them. Of course you can't go wrong with Metallica. Try Wolves From the Throne Room, they use ambient(instrumental) music with their metal. Arch Enemy have a growler vocalist, a female. Check them out on YouTube! I watch a lot of metal concerts on YouTube! I find that some music has to be seen to be fully appreciated. I prefer the live performance of a band as it really shows you the genuine talent of the artist. Ministry are worth listening to...great industrial metal band....Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs is a great album!
There are so many sub genres of metal now. Many avenues to explore. Eluveitie are a great folk metal band ! Their album Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion deserves a listen.
In Flames, Machine Head, Moonspell live at Wacken Open Air Festival, Amorphis, I could go on and on but then it would become overwhelming. Try some of these bands and let me know what you think, Nolan! Have fun. The journey has just begun!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Thanks, SteveO. Sorry for the late reply, but I'll be sure to check out your recommendations! I listened to Celestite by WitTR before you replied. And while I know that it wasn't really black metal, if their previous albums are anything like it I think I'll enjoy it. Thanks!
