Wombat Productions Says Hello
#1
A North Carolina promotion company active in the 1970s -

Savarin Films is releasing a remastered film, AXE (aka LISA, LISA, dir. Rick Friedel) with soundtrack produced by two of our musicians, George Shaw and John Wilhelm, who were tragically killed in a car wreck in 1976. The premiere will be in Charlotte, Sunday night 29th March.

Wombat Productions is also the Miami promotion company mentioned in the Miles Davis autobiography. We did not TRY to sue him. We DID sue him successfully and had him blacklisted in every hall with more than a hundred seats in America and attached his new record royalties, which is why he didn't play a single gig or record any albums during this period. His autobiography resumes five years later, on the day he repaid our deposit plus damages.

And once again we were all friends.

What was he sued for?

He no showed three concert dates, one in Charlotte (at Ovens Auditorium) and two in Miami (at Maurice Gusman Hall).

It ultimately came out that apparently he had a strong financial incentive for not appearing.

And you banned him from 'every venue with more than a hundred seats' for that! Ridiculous.

A word on Pink Floyd and concert promoters - at a concert in Soldier Field the promoters claimed there was an audience of 67000. Floyd hired a chopper, took a couple of photos and did a headcount. Turns out there were nearly 95000 people at the concert. Just goes to show.

I just couldn't resist, being as we're being used to pimp the merch: Here's a picture and Wiki on wombats: https://images.search.yahoo.com/images/v...hspart=avg and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wombat

Maybe Bro C-H has personal experiences with them? Although they are only native to South Eastern Australia...

We certainly did. For the tamasha it caused informing the people who showed up when Miles didn't, for all the costs associated refunding the tickets, for the destruction of our credibility in two cities, for the refusal to return our deposit money, for the fact that in the late 70s, concertgoers would riot if the act didn't show up, and perhaps most of all, for the arrogance of Miles and his agents demonstrated by treating us like powerless "dumb Southern hicks."

Miles could have gotten the blacklist lifted at any point simply by refunding our deposits and paying the damages that had been awarded to to us by the courts.

But he and his agents and legal team refused and fought it out to the bitter end.

Cf. the story of my neighbor, Arthur Smith, and "Duelin' Banjos", a.k.a. "Feudin' Banjos", when Paramount Pictures treated him similarly. Now watch the final crawl of current versions of DELIVERANCE, after Paramount was forced to yank every single print in circulation and add that note at the end.

In any case, the enforced five-year absence from the music business did, however, seem to cure Miles of his habit of not showing up for gigs.

This is a new word for me--I'm assuming you mean the major current use of it, not the historical meaning. In any case, this Thread has been most entertaining.: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tamasha
BTW I'll leave the wombats to you--I'll stick with felines.
