Marianne Faithfull's newest
#1
If you have a few years on you, you'll remember her as the '60's "bad girl", the very equal of Mick and the "bad boys". They got away with it; she got scorn. Well, ever since she has held addictions to a draw, she has been making terrific music. Don't trust me on this--look at the record: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/marianne-...iscography Here's her bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marianne_Faithfull
Point of this Thread: she has a new album, Give My Love to London, that has gotten very positive reviews--here's one from a respected site: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/1987...to-london/ << I'll leave you to find tunes from it and her previous significant, magnificent catalog. Happy hunting. She does have a different kind of voice but well-suited to her material. And, yes, "Faithfull" really is her birth name.

Sparrows Will Sing' was written by Roger Waters for Marianne Faithfull and is the first single from Marianne's 20th album 'Give My Love To London'.

I didn't know that Marianne was still recording! The female Keith Richards...lol! I have always loved her smokey distinctive voice! The song by Waters is very good! Thanks for the share Burkey!

John Lennon's classic blows right past anger, to rage, and Ms. Faithfull's emotive version is THE one. Heckuva band too.

There is an excellent DVD of her live called 'Blazing Away' - worth a look and listen. My favourite of hers is the album ' A Child's Adventure'. Broken English is not bad either.

So glad this Thread has legs--I thought it would be a severely limited audience, namely only me. Couldn't find the Blazing Away DVD, only CD and VHS. Maybe her fan-site can help: http://www.mariannefaithfull.net/ Broken English introduced me to the modern her but Dangerous Acquaintances and Strange Weather sure re-inforced. Here's her Website--I'll leave the bio to individuals but one thing: She is a survivor who brings it to the 21st Century: http://www.mariannefaithfull.org.uk/
I'll leave you with this one mention, a '98 recording of Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Will compositions with a full ork backing. Not as esoteric as you might think. Originally on RCA, later on RCA Red Label, their Classic side--a mark of marketing and respect.: http://www.allmusic.com/album/weill-the-...0001050366 << a good review of a 4-Star+ recording.
