Sukiyaki aka Ue o Muite Arukō was released in Japan in 1961, and the US and UK in 1963. It reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the US in 1963. Kyu Sakamoto was only about 19 years old when he wrote this masterpiece.
