Hi from oz.
#1
Just want to take a few minutes to introduce myself. I'm 34 years old and been a life long fan of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, but I also like blues, Jazz and some Classical. I've been playing guitar since I was 14 and I'm a qualified music teachers so my taste can be varied. I will state that I can't stand hip hop and electronic crap that people call music.
The band to pop my musical cherry was Guns N Roses when I was at the tender age of 8. I'm sure I could have been 'normal' had I not been corrupted by these degenerates.

My top five favorite bands are GNR, Nightwish, Dream Theater, Metallica and Thin Lizzy. There are countless others, mostly from the 70s and 80s. Music took a major dive in the depression era of the 90s, and thanks to illegal (and legal) downloading and the death of the music studio system things have never been the same. There are some great bands out there, but they have little chance of getting the support they need to crack the mainstream and take their rightful place in the music world.

Well that's a bit of an introduction to me. I look forward to chatting with other members on various threads throughout this site. Hopefully we can introduce some new bands to each other.

Cheers
Dave.

Welcome, Dave!

I'm a huge Dream Theater fan!! And I'll warn you that this group can get you to listen to lots of things you might think you don't like! Music Head made me a fan of Iggy Azalea, Jerome has got me listening to some electronic/ambient sounds, and jazzboCR sent me down the 70s surfin' path last week!

But let's talk DT!!!
Welcome, welcome!!

Everyone has an Angel: a Guardian who watches over us. We can't know what form they'll take. One day, old man. Next day, little girl. But don't let appearances fool you, they can be as fierce as any dragon. Yet they're not here to fight our battles, but to whisper from our heart. Reminding that it's us: it's everyone of us who holds power over the world we create. -Sweet Pea

Hi Mary. If you like Dream Theater you might like Shadow Gallery. Start with their album Room V. Awesome stuff. Also, check out Nightwish, if you haven't already.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I saw Sabbath last year in Melbourne - the concert that was recorded for Gathered in their Masses DVD. Awesome performance. They played Under The Sun which was a nice surprise.

Going to be interesting to hear the upcoming Nightwish album. In my opinion, no band has ever released eight consecutive albums that progressively got better and better and Nightwish have seven in a row so far. I've big expectations for album number 8.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dave! I love Nightwish (both versions), but I've never heard of Shadow Gallery. I'll definitely check them out!

Have you heard Sean Ashe? He's a young guitarist from Chicago who is incredibly talented (and a Petrucci-ite).
