JACK WHITE "lazaretto"
Jack's second solo set,
i loved the previous one "blunderbuss" with its distinct folk/rootsy
overtones, this one though, harks back to his White Stripes days of old.
lots of alt rock/blues rock sounds happening here with a couple of ballads
and even a country sounding track thrown in for good measure.
lots of fuzzy distorted guitars and backwards guitars also.
the songs were his re-interpretations of things he'd written as a teenager
in the form of letters and/or poems.
album was recorded in analog....at least they werent recorded in that
stupid record booth Neil Young did a while ago.
the album, unlike a lot of other nowadays, doesnt overstay its welcome
by trying to fill the entire 70+ minutes allowed on a disc, as this one clocks
in somewhere around 38-40 minutes.
this album sounds fresh and inviting, it is on my 'to purchase list'.
thus it gets a passing score of 1.7 for an online listen
from the album:
"temporary ground" (the country sounding track)

"just one drink" (i could imagine The Stones doing this one)

Thanks for the review Crazy mate! I am always intrigued by Jack, jack of all trades musically ...from White Stripes to the Raconteurs to Dead Weather, to producing and appearing on Loretta Lynn's fabulous album Van Lear Rose !

i have all bar one White Stripes albums and the Racounteurs one also...and of course his first solo set...
but like you say "jack of all trades"...and what follows that line?...."a master of none", and that sums up Jack White perfectly IMO

Jack White is such a good baiter, he's a master at it.

Love Jack White.. Personally think The Racounteurs are one of the better projects.
White stripes undoubtedly very successful but just don't seem to do it for me!

First single from the album sounds like RATM... i'm a casual fan of Jack White, but generally don't like people who are open about their massive egos and don't back it up with their work

i think we all have the same overall opinion of Jack White...
i mean when i listen to his albums, especially White Stripes, im thinking 'this is absolutely brilliant'
then when ive finished whatever WS album ive played i think 'what the heck was that crap all about?'
and generally, im not a fan of anyone with a huge ego fullstop!
classic example for me...
im a huge McCartney fan, but over the last few years i find him to have gotten even more cocky, egotistical and self righteous than he ever was and am put off by his music now.
the first time i felt like that was when he wanted the Beatle credits changed to McCartney/Lennon...that was just wrong IMO,thats the way it was,is and should remain regardless of who wrote the song...
im surprised he didnt want "sgt peppers" credited as a McCartney album because it was his initial concept...!

apparently he had a viral infection,
his website says he'll be back on the road next month and he is re-scheduling his cancelled Japanese shows for October...
