I'm just a city boy that grew up in Detroit, Michigan(yes, people still live there). I received my BA in Psychology but unfortunately it isn't the path I want to pursue. I've trained and explored music on the side and worked with the music professors there. My instruments are classical guitar, voice(had to do solfeggios) and piano. Now, I'm working at a different Uni on a Computer Science and a Music composition degree.
My tastes are wide and diverse. I like Medieval, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, and Contemporary eras. I grew up with Hip Hop, blues, Jazz, metal and rock. I'll really find something I like in any genre or style of music. I like to find ideas and make them my own own. To get a gist of what I listen to, I'd say Coltrane, Albert Ayler, Louis Hardin, Chet Baker, Charlie Parker and an endless barrage of others for Jazz. For Classical(let's just say Classical to label, not technically accurate), Frederic Hand(classical guitarist), Leo Brouwer, Brahms, Bach, Milton Babbitt, Ianis Xanakis, Honegger and a barrage of others. For Metal, I like Chuck Schuldiner's work from Death, Meshuggah, Tosin Abasi, Javier Reyes, Jeff Loomis's work. For Hip Hop, MF Doom, Bishop Nehru, J Dilla's production work, KRS One, Aesop Rock and some others that are interesting with words and flow. I like exploring experimental(hard to define but I'll go with it) music from Krautrock generation like Can and such. Experimental like Mamaleek, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Talk Talk, Bjork, Pere Ubu, Don Cabellero, Flying Saucer Attack, Ken Nordine and it's endless.
I think I let myself go there, but I like to find ideas and explore everything. I actually used to despise Hip Hop but being aware to some lyrical content can be quite enjoyable, hilarious and refreshing. Anyways, yeah. I hope to find some cool new things on this forum and I'll definitely share what I have.

i cant comment on the classical side of things because ive never takent he time to explore it being as im not really a fan of instrumental music as a whole.
Nick Cave...one of my favourite artists(except his last album "push the sky away" which i still cannot get "into" for some reason?!?).
Krautrock...never been a fan of that genre of music but you may be interested that another of my favourite artists Paul Weller recently(2013) released an album of songs inspired by the whole Krautrock style,it was called "sonik kicks"...its one of the few Weller albums i do not like, but you may well do so if you care to check it out(there are youtube links on this forum) in the "beginners guide to" section of the boards, it will be posted on the last page of the Paul Weller beginners guide pages.
as for the rest of your musical likes...
i'll get to know them a bit better as you start posting on htis forum.

I'm not a fan of scatter-shot diversity just for it's own sake, but focused commentary and links on lesser-covered genres is assuredly welcome. Looking forward to your offerings in whatever piques your interests--you just never know what'll blow somebody's skirt up. For example, your mention of solfeggios prompted this (not for musicians only nor totally wack):

Welcome aboard MD, Cryp! I like your music ...I listen to everything! Aesop Rock is great as well as Sage Francis in hip hop...music with substance! I am a Beatle nut. love metal music, experimental, goth country, trad country, neo folk, avant garde jazz,,,,good pop and hard rock...on and on! Anathema, Agalloch, Opeth, Kaki King and Tune- Yards are getting a lot of listens lately! Enjoying various music styles can be extremely overwhelming at times as there is a tremendous amount of music available!!!!

Iâll check out Paul Weller and let you know what I think. I havenât explored his music and Iâll be sure to give his Krautrock influenced album an honest listen. Youâre not a fan of instrumental music? Would you be willing to explore classical music with vocals? Gregorian Chant and some Vivaldi operas can be meditative and chilling. Maybe youâre not into that.

Cool article. You should check out this video. I haven't read much into topics like cymatics and mathematical properties and physics of sound but I'll definitely look into it more.

Goth country? Never heard of that. Iâll look into it.
Also, Kaki King, Opeth, and Agalloch are awesome! You should check out Amesoeurs. You might like them.
