What Are You Listening To?
What a great share! Mr. Legnini has a 25-year, distinguished recording history (took a decade off for some reason)--look for his work with sax man Stefano Di Battista. This CD comes packaged with 2 others--a bit pricey at the Usual Suspect: http://www.amazon.com/Box-Afro-Jazz-Beat...884&sr=1-7

Actually - he didn’t take ten years off - he recorded/worked with others. Wiki is helpful, no question, but it is not always a reliable or comprehensive resource, I find. A more complete discography can be seen here - http://www.jazzinbelgium.com/musician/eric.legnini

Yes of course Ruby is correct--my expanded version would be--"...Took 10 years off recording in his name for Euro/North American general release...".
BTW, doesn't noticing an error in a Wikipedia piece entail an obligation to correct/ expand it? Just asking...

FIREFALL "firefall" vinyl, 1976

career stats:
studio albums..................9
singles..........................13

this album stats...........#28 US
singles:
"livin' aint livin'"...........#42 US
"you are the woman".....#9 US
"cinderella"..................#34 US

there was some talk on MD a while ago about these guys that was started by Ruby and added to by MH,SteveO and Jerome....
i was curious as i'd never heard of them(the band, not the members...lmao) so i went to the local second-hand vinyl store and was able
to find their first three releases on vinyl...
this was their debut,
slightly country in places, very Eagles sounding in others but reasonably eclectic in that every song sounds different enough to show these
guys have more than one sound to them(well, on this album anyway)....
i have listened to this one a couple of times prior to posting it...
one track i loved the first time i heard it in "dolphin's lullaby", a lovely ballad.
two others are growing on me each time i hear them in "it doesnt matter" and "livin aint livin", which im sure, given the chance of a couple
listens by me will be loved also...
still, after the three listens to date, theres one track i just dont like in "love isnt all", and i dont now why i dont like it...maybe because its wedged
the two that i almost love???
either way, not a bad album IMO, and could in time be one i truly love!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

DR HOOK "the dr hook collection" cd, 1994

career stats:
studio albums..........11
singles....................27

one of my birthday giftcard purchases from last year....so i thought i'd better start posting them or another year will fly by
and the "new purchase" pile will continue to keep getting larger, and considering i still have around forty to play yet.....

i didnt know which thread to put these guys in...rock,country,easy lisening/soft rock so forgive me if you think this one should have
gone elsewhere....
anyway,
forty tracks on this 2cd comilation set...probably a bit of overkill as some of this stuff is pretty darn average to say the least...
even some of the ones ive put down as liking probably are borderline dislikes,or at the least, cant make my mind up material...
obviously their hit singles are very good, and quite a few of their other tracks i wsnt aware of are pretty good also, but some are
downright aweful IMO...
i really wish they'd have stuck to their "sylvias mother"/"when youre in love with a beautiful woman"/"better love next time baby"
type material than their zany, novelty type songs...i mean, some of them are just plain stupid, other simply irritating,
nevertheless theyre a good allround band...
i was surprised to fing on Wiki that they appear to have been more popular here in Australia than anywhere else...
they had two #1 hits here in "sylvias mother" and "walk right in", only one in the UK being "when youre in love with a beautiful
woman" and none in their homeland...
theyve also had more top10 hits here(8 in total) and only six in both the UK and US which is probably why theyve toured here every
couple of years for the last thirty five or so years...
its probably why they also recorded a single for Australian release only in the early 1980s called "the wild colonial boy" which was a
traditional Australian folk ballad(that one made it to #4 here), its my favourite track of theirs and if i can find a link for it i wil post it
the bottom as its not on this album...
all-up though, a fairly decent album album from a bunch of guys who have rarely taken themesleves and the music business seriously!

here's their Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr_Hook
