Ambient Music - How to?!
#11
Thank you JazzboCR and Jerome! I'll continue learning and already buying those books. Hope i can contact you guys from time to time.
When i do some progress, surely will post something here. Thank you guys very much!

By the way, there's something that i need to know: Jerome told that this ambient chillout music can be done without a DAW, i'm wondering, how its possible? It's only to have the knowledge.

As much help as Jerome has been and can be, you are better advised to seek a Website or 2 for writers/producers/originators of such stuff. They have to exist and you will find kindred, practical folks there. Just remember who brought you to the dance...

Jazzbo is correct - I do not know much about the music genre you mention. There are people on websites that know more about this than me. I will help if you get stuck but there are people more up to date with your type of music (I am an old man) and who could probably give you better advice too. But one thing I will say - investigate what you are getting into or you are going to end up buying a lot of stuff you don't need. You can create this music without a DAW but it will be very difficult to edit and process the different parts. Remember Jean Michel Jarre's 'Oxygene' (an entirely electronic album) was recorded in a dining room with a reel to reel tape and no computer in sight. He did however have access to a lot of vintage synthesizers which would cost an absolute fortune today. It's possible but a lot trickier to deal with. A computer opens doors to easy editing and manipulation of takes and samples. And it makes your compositions very visual - a big help.

Leandro - just a head's up. Thomann (Germany) are offering a Studio Startup package that gives you a DAW, virtual instruments and processing effects for only 49 Euros. It is not top class stuff, but with a bit of imagination you can do quite a bit with this. It is the cheapest possible package you will ever get. Bar none. Don't worry about how things look - listen to what they sound like. I am an Electrical Engineer by profession and most of the processing units that are sold for tens of thousands of dollars have very basic components inside them - all manufactured on the cheap in China. Don't get swayed by prices and brand names - you can achieve a lot with very little. The real ingredient in all music is imagination. And that you cannot buy in a store.

Here's their Website--I brought it up in English but all major languages are supported.: http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html?sid=...ced8bb4399

Good choice - I have Sonar X3 for MIDI stuff and Samplitude Pro X for live instruments and for mixing/mastering. I still think Sequoia is too expensive for what it's offering so I have not upgraded to that yet.

My bad. I posted that link without testing the components of it. Mr. Fletcher seems to have gone dark, and has switched to other music formats anyway. Here's a Site that talks about him but more importantly, "recommended" lists other artists who are maybe more current. Again, my apology and happy hunting.: http://magnatune.com/artists/psychetropic/ Here's that Site's home page with a long list of artists in all genres: http://magnatune.com/ << It's a paid site but good for gathering ideas and artists names for free. And natch when you have works to share with the world, maybe reverse course and use this for that...
