Nick Lowe - Nick The Knife - 1982 - **

Debated with myself where to put Nick. I really think he's more pop. Thing is I don't really like the term pop and I like Nick Lowe, so I put him here. Sorry. If anyone thinks he should have been in pop, I understand. This is his third solo album but first since breakup of Rockpile. Includes a slowed down remake of Heart, which was a hit for Rockpile. I prefer the groups version. Although the album charted fairly well, there were no singles to do so. No clip for my fav. Anybody know who's singing in that One's Too Many clip. Nick's on the right, but who's that with the lead?

^ I think Nick Lowe certainly qualifies here under the Indie category.

He has sound Indie credentials...

The Cure - Entreat

Haven't listened to this for ages...

Live album from 1990 which was, I guess, the peak of their commercial success.

Robert Smith's mix of angst & romance has always appealed to me, and this gets a good thumbs-up.

I've been nursing The Fall's "Hex Enduction Hour" for the past few weeks. Very cool album, great lyrics.

Although I do agree that this is a great record and I have this on vinyl too, in fact I have all The Cure releases on vinyl but I do find it hard to stick them to a specific genre and the only real genre that their best records is Gothic Rock. Yes, there are spurs of alternative rock in some songs but really, I do think that The Cure itself is a genre because each record they release has a distinctly different feel as I'm sure you have realised after spanning their long and industrious career.

In any case, I have been hooked on Nada Surf and the album The Weight Is A Gift. Really great lyrics and rhythm guitar from Caws completes the album and you can really interpret the lyrics pretty deeply.

Sex Pistols documentary on Sky Arts (!) - music and talking heads but great - I love John Lydon (swoon).

(haven't listen to the Fall in forever - off to the download I go)

I saw on the NME website yesterday that he's reconvening PIL for some Metal Box 30th anniversary (?!) gigs. I'd be interested if there's some new recorded output...

Arcade Fire - Arcade Fire - 2005 - ***

Canadian alt rockers do it for me. Debut EP with only 7 tracks and well worth it. The submarine thing I can't get inot and I prefer the later heavier version of No Cars Go but other than that, top notch stuff. I no longer do the concert thing, but if I did these guys would be on my must see list.

Favorite Track - The Woodlands National Anthem

I guess we'll have to move
The neighborhood is on to us
Let's join the little babe's
throwin' rocks in front of us

Riding on my bicycle
I pass my sister on a bus
Let's take the country road before our parents send for us

Trees keep fallin' at my feet
I guess it's time to build a boat
Make a raft of our bodies
Do you think that it'll float?
What I said was not a joke,
But you just licked the envelope
I'm tired of dating, let's elope
But you just licked the envelope

Three cheers for my parents,
Lonely failed experiments!
Three cheers for my parents,
Lonely failed experiments!

Don't you dare blame my parents
I'm the only failed experiment
Don't you dare blame your parents
You're the only failed experiment
Don't you dare blame your grandparents
Mom's the only failed experiment
Don't you dare blame your grandparents
Dad's the only failed experiment
Don't blame God
Just blame God

Yeah, I read about that earlier in the week and was thinking the same - I can't see it though, but I'd be happy to be wrong.

The new one. It sounds much like their old work. That is, excellent. I may go seem them play soon. It will be the third time.
