I'm on MB too, like a couple other recently joined members, and from looking around I think I have a bit of a sense of this place. I listen to a decent amount of music, and I like to think I have pretty broad-ranging taste. Some favorite artists: Spiritualized, Sleater-Kinney, John Coltrane, Built to Spill, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Built to Spill, Destroyer, David Bowie, Big Star, Can, Charles Mingus, the Band, Drive-By Truckers, Elvis Costello, Fucked Up, Galaxie 500, the Fall, Gram Parsons, Gene Clark, the Hold Steady, Low, Kanye West, Los Campesinos!, the Microphones/Mount Eerie, Nick Cave, Modest Mouse, Mission of Burma, Radiohead, the Replacements, Run the Jewels, Refused, the Pogues, Swans, Bjork, Belle and Sebastian, Public Enemy, Stars of the Lid, Teenage Fanclub, Tindersticks, Earth, Big Black, Talking Heads, Tom Waits, the Body, Titus Andronicus, LCD Soundsystem, Townes Van Zandt, Wire, X, XTC, Whiskeytown, the Walkmen, and Yo La Tengo.
... That went on for a really long time, sorry.

That's quite the huge pool you swim in, Josef K. Congrats on casting the net so wide. A "Search" here will find most of those artists talked about--join in anywhere--opinions and new/previously unknown music by artists are welcomed...and if you wish to be a passive observer, that's OK too. This Board is for whatever you want it to be for, though the bomb-throwers and the deliberately contentious are usually ignored.
NB--I speak only for myself as a contributor but you'll find what I said to be true.
A man accustomed to hear only the echo of his own sentiments, soon bars all the common avenues of delight, and has no part in the general gratification of mankind--Dr. Johnson
