Sadly I think it has well and truly died.

I grew up with Nu-Metal so it will always hold a place in my heart but all of the pioneers of the genre are now making such bland, uninteresting music. The angst of that generation just isn't there anymore, it got replaced with all of the self-loathing and forced "randomness" by emos...

It must be viable ! Slipknot went instantly to Number One with their latest album on Billboard! Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park...all still very popular...the number one money maker for bands today is generated from concerts and selling their products!

Seems to be a fairly small genre according to this list of Nu Metal bands! The main irritant for me is the boring commercialised mainstream vocals at times that sound the same!

The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

I don't think any of these bands are really making Nu-Metal anymore though, they have become some strange hybrid beast that just rides the waves of pop-music culture. I find that everyone has either done that or become absurdly heavy (i.e Soulfly's new albums).

Maybe I just feel like this because I'm not an angsty teen anymore but I think they have all lost a bit of the raw emotion that made the genre what it was.
