I've never gone off music, but I have veered away from a particular style. For example in the mid to late 70's I gave up on rock and went into jazz, later I got off of jazz and went to blues...

That's one way to do it--another is to plug a genre into AllMusic and see what they come up with. Not too helpful to those with a desperate search for the new, the now, the Next Big Thing, but great for the rest of us. Here's what they say about jazz: http://www.allmusic.com/genre/jazz-ma0000002674

I go through periods where I don't care to put much effort into finding new music. I think we all do. Especially nowdays where we have the internet and a fountain of knowledge at our fingertips. It can be overwhelming sometimes. So, there are periods where I just give up looking for music and stick with what I have.

To a less significant point of the original post, this is not one of those times. I'm in love with 2014 and so much of the music released this year. It's been a truly fantastic year, at least for my own enjoyment. Smile

I'm glad 2014 sounds good to you...
Me,
I've got progressively less disillusioned over the last three years,
In fact, last year my"end of year cd splurge" consisted of mostly old music purchases and this year is probably going to end up the same way.

Nothing wrong with buying old releases, I constantly find older releases that I missed when they first came out, and/or wasn't even alive when they first came out. There are lots of older gems waiting to be discovered by the likes of us.

I find new revelations and gems from the underground as opposed to the mainstream from local musicians, progressive rock metal bands and artists that continue to amaze me with their absolute proficiency in creating exciting new music. Bands like Opeth and Anathema (not black metal now) incorporate folk, hard rock, rock, progressive rock, jazz, classical orchestral and black metal all in one package,,,that approach is exciting to me! There are countless bands out there that are multi genred and hold my attention and interest.

Here are two fabulous sites for great bands and great music!
