I've been listening to a lot of punk bands from this period lately. I'll answer sometime in the future.

briannaballistic:) Wrote:Definitely The Ramones for me...or The Cure...its a tie I just need to point out a blatant fact - The Cure is NOT is punk band. Yes, they were influenced by some of the British punk movement of the mid 70s but truly the only punk stimulated album they had was Three Imaginary Boys (or for you Americans, Boys Don't Cry) and still that was a post-punk record until they moved to the Gothic Rock movement of the 80s. Don't forget, sounding punk does not mean that you are punk - its a whole package; and Robert Smith is one of the best musicians and lyricists of our time so really he moved well away from the notion of punk's "we don't need to be good at music to make good music."

For me it is non other that The Sex Pistols . What else could it be ? Good quality playing , good style and well cultured . Many stories and points have arisen over the years on this lot but the one that stiks out in my mind is a point raised by Glen Matlock in his book , "I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol " He mentions that while all other punk bands of the day played at a rather fast pace , The Sex Pistols always played at a good stedy pace . Listen and this it true .

Vomit Launch is my favorite punk group from the 70's and 80's, but they were late 80's and early 90's. Also they were more folk punk than straight on punk.
For a more hardcore pick I'd choose the Dead Kennedys. Honorable mentions would go to The Sex Pistols and X. |
