HOMUNCULUS by Hideo Yamamoto
A psychological seinen manga about a man who is trying to understand his place in the world and has a procedure that allows him to see other people's inner turmoils. At least that's how it's being portrayed to me for the time being.

Norman Mailer - The Naked And The Dead - 1948
![]() Being on the classics lists I was expecting better. Considering his age at the time (25), gotta give Mailer some kudos though. World War II novel set on an island off of Japan. The U.S. needs the airstrip and we're coming in to save the uninhabited island from the Japs. Most of the book follows this one recon patrol and their quest to ascend the highest peak. I guess they want the view. They encounter little opposition. In fact very little of the book details any actual combat. A couple of the guys get knocked off and one falls off a cliff. The rest go back to the base and party after the hike. Grade - C next up - Against All Enemies by Richard A. Clarke

The current issue of Rolling Stone! There's a great article about EDM groups/performers/artists, and the cover article about Melissa McCarthey is very well done. I'm enjoying it immensely.

Everyone has an Angel: a Guardian who watches over us. We can't know what form they'll take. One day, old man. Next day, little girl. But don't let appearances fool you, they can be as fierce as any dragon. Yet they're not here to fight our battles, but to whisper from our heart. Reminding that it's us: it's everyone of us who holds power over the world we create. -Sweet Pea

The current The Atlantic magazine has a fascinating article on the very different folks who just happen to make magic together. They use Lennon-McCartney as the prime examples. " The Power of 2" Must read for Beatles fans (you know who you are): http://www.theatlantic.com/features/arch...wo/372289/

Thanks again JazzBo!!! A great read indeed! It proves the theory that opposites attract! Interesting point that John and Paul were in competition so to speak with their individual song writing, case in point, John's Strawberry Fields Forever followed by Paul's Penny Lane!

The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Audio Culture - Readings in Modern Music - Christoph Cox & Daniel Warner - sounds very highbrow but isn't really. Just a fascinating insight as to how musicians think/compose. An ear opener.

EDM concerts are coming under increasingly heavy scrutiny because of incidents like this: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/27/arts/m...ncert.html << too much to expect patrons to be self-regulating but another fracas like this and you know the authorities will step in heavily.
