There is. It’s ‘saudade’. Impossible to translate directly into English – it perfectly describes the indefinable and intangible, and wiki does a much better job than I. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudade

Cesaria Evora’s musical translation -

Saudade is NearAsDammit to what we were describing, but there is with that word, some connection however vague or tenuous to that which is longed for. Not quite fitting when it's mere projection of an unknown time. BTW thanks for sharing her best-known song by one of the Cape Verdean Isles 2 national treasures (the other, Horace Silver, just recently died). Leads to the question of whether they ever worked together--anyone have more on that? There was one phrase quoted in the Elements sub-heading that fits me perfectly--"...indolent dreaming wistfulness."

Invite some of the alleged jokemeisters from Craig's List over--you'll be neck-deep in ignorance and mean-spiritedness in a heartbeat.

  That's funny MH!! Wish I could get some of DAC's fans over here. I love some of those guys but some are idiots  They think DAC is the end all. I have sat in my chair at my PC at 2:00 in the morning and laughed till I cried because of some of the silly things they said.

MM or M2 as he's called is a nearly inescapable force of nature. I won't natter--here's the deal (but he deserves an "Unheralded..." post).: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/marcus-miller-mn0000673114/biography A wiki on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutu_%28album%29
This disc makes perfect sense, considering Mr. Miller's involvement with the original Miles Davis disc. Anyway,....

Live debut from 1980.

Rhythm & Blues band from South London, that I caught live a couple of times about 30 years ago. Excellent live band as is demonstrated on this album.

Mainly cover songs, but delivered with energy & enthusiasm which was clearly appreciated by the rowdy audience.

With their sharp suits, NBZ were the Yardbird revivalists to The Jam's Kinks fixation. Unfortunately they never managed the success of The Jam, probably due to the lack of a writer of Weller's calibre.

RoviMusic 4/5 stars.

They may never have had a break-out hit but they've been going strong for 35 years and are the support act this year for a popular group.; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Below_Zero

Genius album, rich and textured avant jazz borrowing heavily from jazz bands of the 40s. In that sense it reminds me of Mingus, and I think I've said enough about Mingus

Stan Kenton was the most adventurous of the '40's-'50's bands, and caught a ton of crap for it. Here's more on the writer/arrange, Bob Graettinger--he died at 33--imagine if he had lived longer...: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Graettinger
The piece, a tone poem in 4 parts:

Only tracks 6-9 are on the original issue--all that would fit on a 10" LP. See this for more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Gla...n_album%29

Not a big fan of vocal jazz ,but throw in some fuglehorn and I'm down

He was playing a borrowed fluegelhorn because his was lost/stolen/pawned. Look up the word "defenestration"* and there's Chet Baker's pic, splattered on an Amsterdam sidewalk--he'd tried to cheat some drug dealers and they took extreme umbrage,. A pretty boy and brilliant subdued player who ruined both with his heroin addiction, Still, no denying his playing--Chet Baker with Strings is still a benchmark.
