What Are You Listening To?
Beach Wrote:Am listening to an old friend from Chicago and, if I recall correctly, I believe a former member of the 'original' MD - Chicago Bob Hess & the Sofa Kings. Some great blues, some great guitar playing and some great singing and well worth the listen!:nod::nod:

Young slide guitarist & his band.

Trucks is the nephew of one of the Allman Brothers Band drummers, and has apparently played with the band himself.

Definitely Blues, but with strong Jazz, Soul, & World Music influences (not all at once, of course, that would be silly !!)

Trucks has a very distinctive style of playing, and this is a good live album.

What he said about influences: http://www.allmusic.com/album/live-at-ge...0000470485 << Mr. Trucks has had 4 albums since, all 4 stars...and let's not forget his work with his wife, Susan Tedeschi, a major player in her own right.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvJ6UNCk9W4 << here

THIS JUST IN: According to this interview in Blues Music Magazine (reprinted from the Las Vegas Sun, Mr. Trucks and Mr. Haynes are leaving the ABB, both focusing on other projects, other bands: http://lasvegassun.com/vegasdeluxe/2014/...a8d2816332

Pretty cool. I like how this guy plays in lower octaves to accommodate his voice.

This is well done - it's not easy to cover Leonard Cohen, and rightly so.

Shreds are a new phenomenon to me, too, and not soon to be repeated--it's essentially angry and masturbatory, a desperate, self-indulgent appeal for attention. Some musicians/groups deserve all the scorn and mockery they receive but there's a logical alternative--ignoring them. Couldn't that time be better spent finding/creating stuff you do like? Not that I don't like satire intelligently done but this stuff is strictly low-rent and a waste of time. And crass culture rolls on... Not a big fan of guitar shredders either, to address another use of "shred".

Simultaneously creepy and amazing. Awesome.

Screaming Jay sure is sui generis. Talk about somebody who played against a stereotype (remember certain segments of American society considered R&B to be nothing but jungle music). How about this one and a few others? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kGPhpvqtOc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xLBQIWeAjI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TfaIdW783Y and finally http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-ITKLbictI << hope you're not similarly suffering
