What Are You Listening To?
There is quite a substantial scene happening now in prog rock! See these links Jerome. I explore these sites and receive email from them...sometimes I find a diamond in the rough and my faith in modern music is intact!

Jerome Wrote:Not a clue - Been through a couple of phases folk, reggae, 70's prog, electronica, classical, world and ambient. Do not care for country, rap, house/techno junk, metal, disco or traditional inky-plinky-plonky, mumbo jumbo like traditional Irish or South African music. Those last two really get on my nerves. It's just the same phrase over and over and over.
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

I feel bad for you

OK - I will revisit. Maybe I missed something. Or maybe I am just jaded and old.

After the last couple of comments I started thinking about my responses and thought - OK Mr D - if there is ONE album you can take to your desert island what one would it be. (Now I have probably done this a hundred times before and come up with various different answers). But when I look back at the so-called genres I like there is only one album that fits the bill. Not completely, mind, but near as dammit. ELP - Works Vol 1. It has classical elements, folk elements, rock elements, some bits of electronica, some of the finest lyrics I have ever heard/read, some jazz elements, some experimental moments, some really good choral moments, fantastic strings and extremely good production. Would the next ELP please enter stage left.......

no man, don't do that
if you don't like it, you don't like it
by my comment I meant
not being able to find any current music you like
I guess I could be happy just listening to my old stuff
but I can't imagine never hearing anything new I liked
sure the majority of it is crap, but there's grain in that chaff

Maybe the best course of action is to STOP listening for a while and then try again. If at first you don't succeed etc. etc.

By the way I know the KScope site - yes something might come of that - just have not had time to explore that one yet. But I will get there.....I need a bloody vacation where I can just sit on the beach with a pair of headphones and forget the planet exists.

Well at first I wasn't keen on Syds albums but actually his music has grown on me ..I have several albums and live bbc sessions .. the madcap laughs..Barrett..Opal ..and live at the bbc
He is an accuired taste.[

QUOTE=Jerome;90249]Barrett is considered one the founding fathers of 'space rock'. He started using effects in conjunction with 'normal' song structures and this is why he is so revered in certain circles. To my mind he never really achieved what he set out to do. The LSD fried his brain long before he hit his stride and from then on his days were numbered. Sad but true. Acid erodes the insulation around your nerve endings and essentially what happens is all the electrical impulses in the body start short-circuiting. Floyd did make sure he got constant royalties by including some of his better works in compilations, box sets and live performances. He made a tidy sum out of the fact that Astronomy Domine was included as an opener to 'Pulse'. (The CD not the DVD). Think I have mentioned this before but '(S)hine on (Y)ou crazy (D)iamond' is a play on the letters of his first name - SYD. He actually arrived at Abbey Road while they were recording WYWH. Completely unrecognizable. No-one knew who he was. The band was in tears when they realised who it was. And I have to say that Shine On is musically one of the best tributes to someone I have ever heard. It is haunting to say the least. That opening section (done with fingers on the rim of wine glasses) is spine-tingling stuff. I have everything released by this band since day dot except Syd's solo albums and the Shine On box set. Would love to have heard what Rick Wright was working on prior to his death. Always felt his role in the band was overlooked.[/QUOTE]

Traffic - The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys - not my favourite of theirs but not bad either. JBMD is the best Traffic album by far.
