What Are You Listening To?
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out

An experiment in daft time signatures that became hugely successful. Take Five is one of my favourite Jazz pieces.

Probably responsible for the advent of Prog Rock...

Michael Bloomfield With Nick Gravenites & Friends - Live at Bill Graham's Fillmore West: 1969

That's a long title !!

King Sunny Ade & His African Beats - Juju Music

Excellent World Music from Nigeria.

Perfect for a sunny day in the garden...

Arne Domnerus Group - Jazz at The Pawnshop 2

Sequel to a famous hi-fi demonstration record, recorded live in a Stockholm club.

Prefer the original, but this is still excellent.

Billie Holiday - Lady in Autumn

2-disc compilation of material from her latter years. Some say that she was past her best by this time, but I never really liked her for the technical aspect of her voice. It's all about the emotion, and the authority that she brings to bear on these songs that I love...

Easy-Star All Stars - Radiodread

Reggae version of Radiohead's OK Computer. Love the original, and this is excellent.

They've just released Easy-Stars Lonely Hearts Dub Band, their Reggae take on Sgt Pepper, and they're playing a 200-capacity club in Folkestone on the day I return home at 04:00 from a holiday in Tenerife, in October. Shall buy tickets tomorrow...

"Vegas" The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, though one would be pressed to call some of their music jazz. I dig it so far, though.
