The American Top 40 with Casey Kasem
#1
My favorite musical period is the early seventies. My early influences are from that period as i was a boy of let s say ...13 , 14 .
At the moment i m listening to old recordings of the Casey Kasem shows of the American Top 40 . I can t describe what a joy it is to hear
this Top 40 show in full stereo glory and hear the records from that period.
Also the variety of the music is something that makes it even more wonderful. It s all there , pop, country , soul , easy listening. rock .

In my collection i found an old Record World Top 100 from 1972 . Does it bring back memories for any of you ?

i used to listen to the Casey Kasem top40 chart show when i was a teenager...
i used to love his accent and vocal tone. but the main reason for listening was to know what was in the charts over there and what would be released here over the next couple of months.
another reason was that if i heard an artist i liked was releasing a new single i knew i would hear it first on his show!
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

If they were to put those on cd, I would be a customer
Listened to Casey for decades
the only time you could listen to the radio
without hearing the same songs every 15 minutes
countdown show you knew you were going to get 40 songs with no repeats

just for ho-de-ho's, here's the playlist of his debut show. Most entries stand the test of time--we had pretty good taste 44 years ago, didn't we? http://oldradioshows.com/at40/070470.html
And here's TROTS till the end in '88: http://www.oldradioshows.com/at40/regindexck.html
Here's a sample of what they sounded like: http://tunein.com/radio/American-Top-40-...s-p117092/ << I liked that he'd throw out some trivia about an artist (the tease) then give the name (the segue) then play a tune (the payoff). Here's his bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_Kasem

We certainly did have good taste because we had good music! I recently remarked here on MD that when I was growing up virtually all of the Top 40 was appealing enough to buy all 40 singles!!!!...lol

What a find Jazz! All of Casey's shows!,,,,wow!
