![]() PETER GABRIEL "security" aka "IV" cd, 1982 solo career stats: studio albums: 9 singles: 36 this album: #6 UK, #2 CAN, #28 US, #66 AU singles: "shock the monkey"...........#58 UK, #29 US, #10 CAN, #25 AU "i have the touch"..............#62 UK another xmas giftcard buy... i saw Gabriel on "later with jools" a while ago(november i think) he played the opening track from this album "the rhythm of the heat", i'd never heard it before, i loved the sound of that track with lots of unusual/not rock related instruments so i posted the clip on the forum... Jerome advised me that it came off this album and also which albums of his i should invest in if curious about Gabriel, whom i have never taken any notice of previously... except "so" which i have on vinyl... i bought this one and "3"/"melt"....i like "melt" a hell of a lot, not too keen on this one though... i just find the tracks here(moreso than "3") just bounce all over the place in style...ie: not coherant enouch, there is no musical theme running through here, just a mish-mash of too many styles that go from one extreme to the other. the album does make the pass mark for me but theres too much of everything and not enouth of something for my general liking. listen to the two links and youll see what i mean by one extreme to another. all up though... i now own that brilliant "rhythm of the heat" track so it was worth it IMO as a footnote, i just watched the 'shock the monkey' live clip...i much perfer this song as a live performance for some reason!? I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: the family and the fishing net best track: the rhythm of the heat tracks: 1. the rhythm of the heat *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61nHXmMEYoY live 'later with jools...' 2. san jacinto ** 3. i have the touch * 4. the family and the fishing net * 5. shock the monkey ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lhxencRCCU live 'athens 1987' 6. lay your hands on me ** 7. wallflower ** 8. kiss of life ** 3s-1 2s=5 1s=2 rating: 1.9 or 6/10

Not sure why I never followed up on them but this is all I have. This album gave them a breakthrough in the homeland and took down 3 Brit Awards. Three love tracks for me which is unusual for a debut album. I'm a slow learner. Best for me is Oh My God which never touched the chart here. The group never has caught on here even though their 4 releases have all gone top 10 in the UK. This one is 6X Platinum there and not even Gold here. The last release in 2011 never made the chart here. Looks like the next one is scheduled for release this month. Curious how they will fare on the island. Apparently they won't fare well here. Anyone here heard anything since this album? I do know the Ruby song off of Yours Truly Angry Mob, but that's it.
