Oh MH and CH are just going to love this one. Mike Oldfield's 'The Songs of Distant Earth'. Perfection! This is real imagination at work. The mixing on this album is superb - as is the music. Classical, ethnic, electronic and rock elements all combined on one incredible musical journey.

A bump for me from his last album, after a 3 year break. I get 4 love tracks out of this one, almost up to par for Elton. Guest appearances from
David Gilmour and Eric Clapton on different tracks. This was Elton's best selling album in the US since 1975's Captain Fantastic. Maybe it was
the rehab stint that put Elton back on track. We all know how drugs and alcohol inhibit writing and performance ability. In his defense he does
claim that this is first album he had recorded sober in many years. Good for him.

i did own this one at some point, but i guess it has gone missing during house moving, as cds inevitably do from time to time!
this is Springsteen's third studio set, it contains a good mix of rock and roll and folky ballads.
lyrics as usual are classy affairs as are most of his lyrics in general!
this is "classic" 1970s rock not just "classic" Springsteen!
great to have this one back in my collection!

Nice comeback from that nasty Duets idea. After 3 albums with Chris Thomas producing Elton takes on the task, with assistance from Greg Penny.
This was the last album to include long time band member Ray Cooper on bass. Elton got a Grammy nomination for the single Believe and an AMA
nomination as Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. He lost out on both. Believe was the highest charting of the 4 singles, with Canada taking it to
#1. That wasn't one of my favs, House gets my vote. Elton was fresh off of his success with the Lion King soundtrack when he started working on
this. Paul Carrack from Squeeze shows up on a couple of tracks, and we have the master himself Paul Buckmaster contributing on the string
sections. All up a very nice album.

i did like ALL the singles off this one when it came out but never got round to buying the album...
do you own his very good "songs from the west coast" album, or had you given up on Elton by that time?
did you also eventually get that one with Leon Russell also....pure class IMO

as I need to fill in that big gap I have after this last one I have (other than The Diving Board) that I'm playing now, The Big Picture
that review will be up next
was going to ask you about those I am missing.
you just told me you like those 2
what about Peachtree Road and The Captain & The Kid
and another older one I discovered I am missing is The Fox
have you heard them? anyone?
so all I need is those 5 and my Elton collection will be complete

i havent heard the Peachtree or Captain albums mate, so cant help you there
but The Fox, i have that on vinyl...its a piece of crap, from around 1980ish as i recall?
"nobody wins" was the biggest hit from it and that was a failure by his standards then also, so guess very few people actually bought it,
but you gotta get that collection complete man...
