What Are You Listening To?
not a bad album SteveO...
i have all four of their albums plus the Fallon side project album under the name The Horrible Crowes...
"handwritten", is actually my least likeable album of the five, and "45",is IMO, the worst song they have made...
i think their third album "american slang" is their best one thus-so-far...

I love this album . I got it when I was about 13 years old in 1977 because a school friend of mine recommended the album and after that I became a Beatles freak and I still am

THE BEATLES "sgt.peppers lonely hearts club band" cd, 1967

along with PF's"dark side of the moon" and "abbey road",probably the most recognizable album cover of all time!
this was the first cd i bought, i also bought "making movies"(dire straits) and Dylan's "infidels" on the same day...
bought it in 1987 when it was released on cd as part of the 20th anniversary of the album...i then had to go out and buy a cd player...LOL!
this one, IMO, sounds more dated than any other Beatle album(ieConfusedtuck in a period)...
im aware that this was groundbreaking stuff when it came out and acknowledge them and Geroge Martin for their foresight and ability to put their thoughts into words and music that no-one had ever heard, but alas, it does lack something for me!
album did get to #1 just about everywhere, and upon re-issue on cd in 1987 it actually made it to #1 on the Aussie album charts all over again!
only one song i dont like on here, George's "within you, without you", lyrically i love what he wrote there, but i cannot stand the sound of sitars(they do absolutely nothing for me at all)...
the rest, well, they are split evenly between likes and loves..as a huge McCartney fan i am actually dissapointed with his songs on here(overall), much prefering john's allround performances), i mean stuff like "lucy in the sky" and "a day in the life"...thats about as good as The Beatles ever got...
all up though, an essential piece of rock and roll that every music lover should own...!
LOOK, IM NOT POSTING LINKS HERE...EVERYONE KNOWS THEM, AND IF YOU DONT, THEN, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDNT BE ON THIS SITE!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: within you,without you
best track: a day in the life

tracks:

1. sgt.peppers lonely hearts club band **
2. with a little help from my friends **
3. lucy in the sky with diamonds ***
4. getting better **
5. fixing a hole ***
6. she's leaving home ***
7. being for the benefit of mr.kite **
8. within you,without you *
9. when im sixty-four ***
10.lovely rita **
11.good morning,good morning ***
12.sgt peppers (reprise) **
13.a day in the life ***

Sixto Rodriguez - met an Irish pal in the pub yesterday who had just seen the movie 'Searching for Sugarman'. Explained to him about just how popular this guy was back in SA. He is completely blown away by the music. So I am listening to this again this morning - takes me back to a great time.

1. everyone gets blown away by Sixto when they hear him the first time!
2. he was just as popular here as he was in SA
3. i love Rodriguez' music
4. i havent seen the doco on his life yet, but i believe it is brilliant

its a real shame that he never made it big back around 1970 so he never got the fame he deserved....until now!

On something of a Moody Blues revival at the moment. Going through all the old classics at the moment. They really were totally unique in their approach to composition. Many famous bands have been copied, but here's one that no-one has even come close to emulating.

B.B KING "gold" 2006

this is a double cd containing thirty four tracks from the period 1963 thru 1998...
the tracks are in chronological order, which is always the best way to put together a compilation IMO...
i have only listened to the first disc to post here...
im not a big fan of The Blues or ever Blues Rock, but i like what i like...
pretty hard to go past Buddy Guy,Eric Clapton and BB IMO....
nineteen tracks on the first disc, attracting seven ***, eight ** and only two *...
this gives an overall score for the first disc of 2.2...

from disc one of BB King "gold"

"lucille"(my favourite BB track ever!)
