Interpretation of a piece of music or a song...
#1
How to 'interpret' as many a maestro of mine would tell me. Well, I've racked my brains and exerted my fingers and voice many a time to reach that which 'interpretation' means, namely, 'translation' of an existing work of music into the sort of life it's composer desired. Or rendering it unique, somone else would say, by imprinting my emotions and touch on it. I here post a link....or more than one, to show high levels of 'interpretation'. Have any of you got other examples of refined (or emotionally stirring) 'interpretations'? Happy to exchange ideas...

For me, the best version of Bach's prelude for Cello...

And the best vocal rendering of this lovely song from the musical Les Miserables.

Wow I love those clips, Bell! The Bach cello piece and the song are very familiar, of course! Bach's prelude is on a TV commercial here..can't recall the ad just the music!
Yo Yo the master of the cello...such a beautiful and emotional performance! I know an 18 year old Korean music student. He has played the cello since he was six and I asked him the other day what do you want to take at university. He quickly replied to his parents and myself ...MUSIC! I said you'll have to go to Julliard or Berklee! His parents laughed and said We have talked about that!!! I was thrilled to see someone so young wanting to pursue a career in classical music!

I have several examples....Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven and K.D. Lang's rendition of Hallelujah(Leonard Cohen) not Handel..ha ha ...you can visit them on youtube as I have posted them more than once on MD!

Here's one I like: It shows that the gorgeous songs of The Beatles live on with today's youth!

SteveO, you've surpassed my expectations. The children's Hey Jude is so beautiful. I myself have a children's choir, and I have sung Let It Be with them, Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat song, The lion sleeps tonight, Vivaldi's Gloria, Bach's Jesu Joy of man's desiring, Dust in the wind, Abba's I Have a Dream, Scorpion's Send Me an Angel and Dylan's Kockin on Heaven's door. So you can imagine that I feel for this link very much....
