What Are You Listening To?
never heard of the guy????...like your favourite track though, like you said....has a distinct Paul McCartney sound to it, wouldnt have been too far out of place on Wings' "red rose speedway" or Paul & Linda's "ram" albums IMO

AC/DC "ballbreaker" cd,1995.

i thought i'd pick one from Dani's collection this time round for a change...
admittedly, ive never heard this one before so it is a first listen(apart from the three or four i already knew from the radio)....
very few of the trademark AC/Dc riffs happening here, vocalist Brian johnson sounds like he is busting a blood vessel or something(way too much of the screechy screams for my liking here), probably the most immature set of lyrics i have ever heard on one of their albums(teenager sex stuff), this would be without a doubt the worst AC/DC album i have ever heard, these tracks would not have made it on to my three favourite ones(back in black, razor's edge, black ice), terrible album from australia's finest blues rock band ever...

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Sixth album from the Mael brothers. I have the previous five and consider this step down from
those. Still a good album, just not up to those. Amazing these guys have lasted as long as they
have, considering the lack of chart success. They had disbanded their band for this where they
used session musicians. A jump to a new label for the album. Those two major changes may
explain my displeasure. Described as a harder rock sound than their previous efforts, even Ron
and Russell downplayed the album, much later of course. Big Boy and I Like Girls were released
as singles with no success. The album failed to chart in either the US or UK.

THE SEARCHERS "the most of..." cd,1994

very average UK 'beat' band from the mid sixties...The Beatles used to say 'they're our favourite liverpool group'...not sure whether they were being sarcastic or serious??
these guys had a string of hits over a period of three or so years..."love potion number nine" was probably their biggest international hit but "sweets for my sweet" was their biggest hit at home in the UK, i was never big on these guys but decided i should have at least one compilation for the above two tracks and 'needles and pins' alone, IMO, they made a lot of crap with a few little gems thrown in inbetween, either way, cant really knock them for their melodies

"Silver Side Up" - Nickelback

Nothing really that great. Decent enough mainstream rock album. Was discussing the merits of NB with a friend and had a nostalgic flashback of how much I enjoyed this album and their follow-up, "The Long Road."

i have all of Nickelback's studio albums, the problem i have with them is that i feel there is always several 'filler' tracks on them, but that is offset with some good stuff also...

i saw them live last november for the first time...they are much better as a live act than a recording band IMO, lots more "oomph!" in their live renditions of songs and Chad Kroeger sure can belt out a tune in concert

ratings:

studio performances 6/10
live performances 8/10

Once again, Deep Purple.

I used to defend Nickleback against the haters. Not anymore. They do suck, in my opinion. I do recognize their pop skillz, but enough is enough. I am so tired of them. But, to keep this post balanced, I am not afraid to admit they have some great songs. I really like "Breathe," "Too Bad," and although I can't say I love the song "Animals," the energy in that tune is infectious.

EDIT: I also like "hero" :peep:

Yeah, SSU definitely has some filler on it. I really like "The Long Road" though. I think that's a really solid mainstream rock album. Its not going to win any awards or anything, in my book at least, but when compared to other albums in the same general genre, I rank it pretty highly.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of their new stuff. I dropped off the wagon after "All The Right Reasons." Solid album, but not good enough for me to go out of my way to buy. The 2 after just haven't done it for me. But, I won't consider them anywhere near "Worst band in history" status because I do enjoy their earlier stuff. Not afraid to admit that either.
