What Are You Listening To?
from my library (vinyl)

[Image: 220px-Bill_Bruford_Gradually_Going_Tornado.jpg]

Actually a side project for drummer Bill Bruford, who has served time with Yes, King Crimson,
Roy Harper, and on tour with Genesis. Original drummer for Yes, whom he left to join King
Crimson. Also has done session work with many big names. He had three albums with the group
known as Bruford, this being the last of those. Not very good for me, as half of the tracks are
instrumental. You can hear some Yes influence on some tracks. On the vocal tracks, that chore
goes to Jeff Berlin, who does a decent job. I guess Bill doesn't sing. Nothing I love on here,
and four I don't like at all, so the albums a bomb for me. Wiki says this album is considered
among one of the best albums in the progressive rock/fusion genre, so maybe Jerome knows about
it.

Never heard of this one MH so can't help here. I have one of his albums - a live session - it's OK, but this is really an album to showcase his drumming. I get bored with his stuff pretty quickly. Don't know why because the muscianship is outstanding, but it just does not seem to hold my attention for too long.

Will do and get back to you

Update - as always the drumming is perfect. Not mad about the track but it does have it's moments. 'Phrasing' is the correct term BTW. Think the lyrics are quite good. Different from the norm. Quite refreshing. Reminds me of Blood, Sweat and Tears.

A flatliner from Bob, nothing I love and nothing I don't like. He's back in the rock genre for
this one. Always fun trying to put Bob in a niche, as he doesn't stay anywhere long. Tried to
peg each track at the end of this. Another album that got high praise from both critics and
fans, his first #1 album here since Desire, thirty years earlier, though far from matching
those sales figures. Also #1 in Oz, Canada and #3 in the UK. As usual for a dylan album, no
lyrics and no liner notes. They do give the band credit this time, although there is no one I
have heard of. Album was recorded in three weeks which I love seeing. It doesn't take months or
years to make music. Just turn on the recorder and play. Grading all tracks the same makes it
hard to pick a best and worst. Clips for 9 of 10 tracks, woo-hoo.

Let's wrap this Dylan thing up. I have done all of his albums that I have on cd for the past
few months, 1 or 2 a week. Since I did his most recent, Tempest, shortly after I got it from me
MD mate, this will be the last one. As I previously mentioned elsewhere, I am missing 5 of his
studio albums on cd. I hope to fix that someday. Regarding this one, Bob is still mostly doing
his blues/rock thing, with a few exceptions. A step down from his previous release for me.
Nothing I love and two I don't like. Presence of an accordion on a lot of these tracks doesn't
work well for me. Not that I dislike the instrument, so I'm not sure why. All of these songs
but one, were co-written with the Dead's Robert Hunter who Bob had worked with before. The
album was another #1 in Dylan's belt, both here and in the UK, and a #5 in Australia. That
makes his fifth #1 album in his homeland, and it looks like the peak for Tempest is #3. I
prefer Tempest over this one.

I'm on a bit of a Neil Young run at the moment .....his album A Treasure with the International Harvesters is fantastic!!!!!! All the songs are tremendous!!!!!..Southern Pacific is a standout!

Also gave a listen to Simon & Garfunkel's Bookends album (surprised to hear a lot of sound effects)!...did Sgt.Pepper unleash orchestrations and sound effects in rock music? Gorgeous harmonies and nice acoustic guitar from these guys. Old Friends, Fakin' It, Mrs. Robinson, Hazy Shade of Winter, At the Zoo and America are standouts and the album is timeless!

Tegan and Sara's Heartthrob album is a good pop album ...should put them in the limelight! Good songs with a good melodies and the twins' voices never sounded better!

and The Last Waltz - The Band, with guest artists Bob Dylan. Neil Young(Helpless), Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell, to name a few. Not a bad concert but way too long ...6 CDs...lol
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

First heard this guy and could have swore I was listening to Mac. And the music even sounded
just like post-Beatles Paul. Emitt Rhodes is from Illinois and started with a group called The
Merry Go Rounds in the late 60's, and had a contract with A&M Records. Doesn't say how that
came about. Had minor success with his debut album, and this is the rushed follow up, which is
not as good. The man only lasted for four albums before switching to the studio technical side
of the industry. On both his debut, and this album, Emitt plays all instruments and does all
vocals. And it's a full band sound, so the guy had to have been fast, to get around to all the
instruments. Maybe he just got tired after four albums.
