Just reading his autobiography 'Changeling' (again) - if you read between the lines, the one thing that changed his whole focus (just like Syd) - LSD. I don't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, but it altered people's perceptions of what was possible. There are just too many examples of this to just ignore it. There's 'Something Happening Here'....

For about 25 years I have pondered whether Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre, was a better album than Tubular bells. I still can't decide.

I rate them both equally brilliant. They were both a defining moment in my listening habits. They both charted new territory and they were both hugely successful.
