Thinking about this earlier, I came up with thirteen types of metal. So I'll have to narrow it down to ten somehow.
But here goes: what's your favourite style of metal?

I went with Hard Rock. By hard rock I'm thinking Black Sabbath, ACDC, Wolfmother, Budgie, Judas Priest etc.

I'd think of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest as Heavy Metal. AC/DC are definitely Hard Rock though

i dont like real metal much at all...Hard Rock is about as heavy as i get, stuff like AC/DC,Iron Maiden,KISS, to name a few or heavy/glam rock like Marilyn Manson,Slade also

Listen to OPETH my friends!!!!!!!..possibly the premier band on the planet right now!..and yes they do sing Cookie Monster (MH quote) vocals from time to time but they also write and play beautifully crafted melodic folk rock songs with hard rock and jazzy overtones and incredible riffs and solos!!!!!...don't get turned off just because of a few grunts and growls like Cradle of Filth???? The leader of this fabulous band from Sweden is Mikael Akerfeldt...guitar and vocals. He has cited Alice Cooper, Comus, Uriah Heep, Can..among others as his influences. The group usually only releases an album every two years with extensive world tours in between.Akerfeldt has said that they go for quality to please their fans instead of quantity!.One rock critic from AllMusic stated that Opeth reminds him of a blend of Pink Floyd and The Beatles!!!!...how cool is that!
I consider IRON MAIDEN as epic metal not hard rock and Manson is as bizarre and heavy as any metal band...lol Try Dead Can Dance's 2012 album Anastasis and you'd be amazed at the vocals, symphonic compositions and overall brilliant performance as far as contemporary rock is concerned!
