What Are You Listening To?
Tiggi Wrote:Lucinda Williams - Essence

More Country Twang than J, F, Or B.

I think she has a really interesting voice, and can write good songs. That'll do for me !!
It doesn't really belong here unless we change the name of this board to Jazz, Funk, Blues & Roots. She is very much more a Country Rocker/Roots Music stylist. As you say old mate, "really interesting voice". Too many nights of hard booze and ciggies!

Bimini is one of the tracks from this 1967 album Atlantis and the 'Arkestra' in question is the Astro Infinty Arkestra.

Thank you, Beach. I have that very album. It's an excellent one. Thanks for giving me the name of the Arkestra at that time; I'm not a Sun Ra scholar, yet, so I don't know how to distinguish them just yet. I wish I had this one on vinyl.

Not a worry my friend! Nor am I, though an old and late dear friend was as I recall. At very least he was overjoyed by what he heard when he visited New York many years ago and caught Sun Ra in one of the many small Jazz Clubs.
If you click on the album cover, or the album name it will take you to AMG where you'll find a great deal of information about both the album and the man and also much of whomever else is out there.

That's awesome. I wish that I could have seen Sun Ra and the Arkestra back in the 60's or 70's, or whenever I could've seen them. AMG is a resource I've criminally neglected over the years. I just found out how useful it and discogs. Thanks for the link and info.

It's far too early on a Sunday morning here to be out of bed, so I am listening to the 6-Disc Dexter Gordon: The Complete Blue Note Sixties Sessions from 1961 as I lie in bed trying to both get a tad more shut-eye and escape the heat for awhile longer.

Don't take everything they print as gospel though - I have found them to be quite inaccurate at times.

"Black City Skyline" - Bohren & Der Club of Gore ... Jeeze, what an amazing band. I need to check out that other one that Iota goes on about occasionally. Kilimanjaro Jazz something or another.

Yeah, Beach... You have to take things with a grain of salt, especially with more obscure artists, I think. Or perhaps even less with obscure artists, due to their lack of press coverage. Who can really say?
