What Are You Listening To?
Right now, I'm digging "A Love Supreme". I remember, like, two years back, I thought this was the craziest thing ever. That was before I heard all the insane lo fi free jazz death metal I've familiarized myself with. It's still damn solid, but far from my favorite Coltrane (which is probably "Meditations")

DINAH WASHINGTON & BROOK BENTON "two of us" cd,1960.

got this as part of a 2cd pack, the other album is "what a difference a day makes" from 1959.
always loved Dinah's voice but some of her songs are simply terrible...even her voice cant make me like them!
this one, however, is recorded with another vocalist i love in Brook Benton...same thing with him also, great voice but a hell of alot of crappy songs IMO.
this one does make the pass mark for me but only just...had i scored it solely on their vocals it would almost certainly get a near perfect score from me.
a couple of hits off this one in "baby you got what it takes" and "rockin' good way"...but dont expect the rest of the album to be as upbeat and catchy as those two tracks...its more mellowed and sleepy sounding.
had the Rockin' Good Way song had come up as by Shakin' Stevens & Bonnie Tyler it would have scored *** and not **

DINAH WASHINGTON "what a diff'rence a day makes" cd,1959.

Dinah's seventeenth album in just nine years...
whereas the one posted above has shades of pop and soul, this is strictly blues...some nice tunes on here, but nothing i love...which is unfortunate because she has a beautiful voice.
apparently there are a lot blues standards on here, but im not really into the blues so i dont know the originals, one of which, Manhattan, i do not like, but blues guys rate it up there amongst the greatest in that genre, so who am i to say whats good or bad!
all up, not a bad listen but i can take it or leave it!

Gorgeous female jazz vocals from one of the premier vocalists and songwriters. Abbey writes all the songs on this album and it is pure delight!

LANIE LANE "to the horses" cd,2011. #12 AU.

debut set from Aussie girl Lanie...
sort of a cross between blues/jazz and rockabilly, similar in sound to Imelda May in a lot of ways but without the brass section...
real sweet soulful jazzy blues voice from Lanie also...
nothing great on this debut set and a couple of duds also...that is due moreso to the fact that there is little variation here and it gets a bit boring in places..
all up, not a bad debut, but i feel her music will quickly dissapear if she fails to develop further and broaden her horizons....didnt figure thered be many links available, but at least my two favourite tracks have them in "bang bang" and "jungle man"

I LIKE HTIS ALBUM

worst track: what trouble is
best track: jungle man
