THE DOVES "kingdom of rust" cd,2009. #2 UK

fourth album by this Manchester(uk) trio...
always played second fiddle to Oasis(also from that city) and thus, largely bypassed by the record buying public and always compared to Oasis back in the day...
this is not by any means their greatest album according to Tem and Corey, but was the only on in stock when i spent my b'day voucher....
these guys have more in common with fellow Manchurian's The Smiths than they do with Oasis, same sort of melodies, lyrical content and vibe as Smiths, but probably not as good IMO.
nothing brilliant on this one, and a couple that i simply do not like at all, but overall, not a bad piece of work, also love the way they have used orchestrations on some of the tracks to compliment their alt rock/pop sounds....similar to The Verve in that respect, these guys have played at Gladstonbury, and in the UK that generally means 'you have made it' when you play there.

THE TING TINGS "sounds from nowhereville" cd,2012.

this one was a freebie 'instore promo copy" from Corey a while ago...
this is TT's second album....
some nice alt.pop on this album, sounds in places like Gwen Stefani's solo material, acouple of duds, acouple of loves and the rest is decent enough from this UK group,
touches of reggae, pop, dance, some very loose 'rap' also, just bits of everything really, would probably have bought this one if i'd have heard it first, but cant really go wrong with a freebie!

I didn't know the Tings Tings had a second album. Guess I'm off to youtube to check out those songs now. Liked their first album.

KINGS OF LEON "because of the times" cd,2007

long distance information..get me memphis,tennessee.....well not quite but these guys do come from down that way,
the Kings third album, my first though, probably should go back sometime...didnt get the follow up album neither(the one with that stupid 'sex on fire' single), but returned for "come round sundown" last year...
lots of raw, ragged, edgy alt sounds on this one...much like those ones Neil Young gets with his early Crazy Horse sounds...guess the only difference is the Black Keys/Strokes vocal quality on show here. album starts off with a Crazy horse-esque 7minute epic about a young couple wanting to have a baby amongst the dissatisfaction of both sets of parents...cant recall whether it is track three or four that has a distinct U2 quality to it, but track six is as close to Black Keys as you could get, touches of reggae on track eight, all of which add up to one very good albumby a band who appear to be more eclectic on their albums than their singles suggest, lyrically it does get a bit repeatative at times, but any young band who tries different things gets my seal of approval!

I agree that 'Knocked Up' is the best rack. I'm on the wall with these guys but they're growing on me.

MY MORNING JACKET "the tennessee fire" cd,1999.

MMJ's debut set...
apparently recorded in vocalist Jim Jones 'outhouse' on his family's rural property on the outskirts of Louiseville,Kentucky....
way too much 'reverb' on the tracks here for my liking, sounds too cluttered and messy, although i still love their harmonies and Jones' fragile vocals..
not a good starting point to get 'into' these guys, which incidently our ex-esteemed member Tiggi did tell me when he introduced me to these guys music some two years ago..
these guys were compared to Neil Young back in the day but i cant see it on this album, and im a big NY fan...
almost certainly the worst album MMJ have released thus-so-far.
