Paavo's self titled
I haven't heard much avant garde vocal jazz. It's interestig idea when you think aboutm because traditional vocal jazz tends to make use of very conventional backing for the vocalist. This is some pretty damn good stuff

Urzula Dudziak, Sheila Jordan and Meredith Monk are the only avant garde ones I know off the top of my head for vocals...I'll check out Paavo if I can find it somewhere!!!!...lol..sometimes this stuff is not easily accessable!

![]() Nina Simone's voice was unparalled in music history! Combining a style of jazz, blues, gospel with classical music she was one of a kind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lTE6c9NCSQ - Fodder in Her Wings ...breathtakingly beautiful!

AIR - Air Lore (1979)
![]() From the vinyl vault comes one of my all time favorite albums! This avant garde jazz group of Henry Threadgill - saxophones and flute, Fred Hopkins - upright acousic bass and Steve McCall - drums and percussion is a complete joy to listen to! Combining an avant garde jazz sound with early jazz from pioneers Scott Joplin and Jelly Roll Morton, it is a perfect album! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DlYqwZfeOw - Buddy Bolden's Blues

from my library (cd)
![]() Picked up as a single cd but actually part of a 5 cd box set which includes all of the 87 songs they did as a team. I guess this 1 cd was a teaser. Probably picked it up at a discount. Wouldn't mind having the entire set. Nice to hear some Frank that is not so well known. Only three tracks here that I was even familiar with before hearing this. All of these were recorded between 1940-1942, Franks early years. Dorsey begat Frank. He would soon go it alone leaving Tommy in the dust. Frank was always one to acknowledge his roots and always gave the Dorsey band credit. Don't know if any of these songs were hits for Frank, but they certainly laid the ground work for the brilliant career that was to follow. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Blue Skies Best Track - Everything Happens To Me Black cats creep across my path Until Im almost mad I must have roused the devils wrath 'cause all my luck is bad I make a date for golf â and you can bet your life it rains. I try to give a party - but the guy upstairs complains. I guess I'll go thru life just catching colds and missing trains; Everything happens to me. I never miss a thing - I've had measles and the mumps. And every time I play my ace my partner always trumps. I guess I'm just a fool who never looks before he jumps; Everything happens to me. At first my heart thought you could break this jinx for me. That love would turn the trick to end despair. But now, I just can't fool this head that thinks for me. I've mortgaged all my castles in the air. I telegraphed and phoned, sent an Air Mail Special, too; You answer was goodbye - there was even postage due. I fell in love just once, and then it had to be with you, Everything happens to me. I've never drawn a sweepstake, or a bank night at a show. I thought perhaps this time I'd won, but Lady Luck said no. And though it breaks my heart, I'm not surprised to see you go, Everything happens to me, Everything happens to me. 1) I'll Be Seeing You *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL60OQLekWQ 2) Fools Rush In ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_6ppwz5pHk 3) It's A Lovely Day Tomorrow ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7QDUnAJb5Q 4) The World Is In My Arms ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-2s3Zz3Q9M 5) We Three *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUJ0vkZ28Lo 6) Dolores ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSx8_UX4N0o 7) Everything Happens To Me *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-UrOaOLqE4 8) Let's Get Away From It All *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2aXYfYB3sE 9) Blue Skies ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h03eH51rsuM 10) There Are Such Things *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIjJnpUvyts 11) Daybreak ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zaaZ6Exw1o 12) You're Part Of My Heart ** 3's - 5 2's - 7 1's - 0 Grade - 2.4
