What Are You Listening To?
The Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur. Bought this on a trip to Cannes - purely because of the name/cover. Don't know what to expect. It's been lying around the house for 2 years and never been played. Today is the day.

Update - easy on the ear but nothing really earth-moving. Anyone can do this stuff. Minimalist in parts. Some nice twists and turns - I like the fact that they change tempo and instrumentaton quite a lot but I cannot say that I would regard it as an important album, but I do think they have enormous potential. They just have not got it right on this one. But they will...............almost like a band in an embryonic stage. Time will tell. It always does.

Tangerine Dream - White Eagle. I suppose this should really be in the 'Electronic' section but what the hell. My fave of theirs. Convention of the 24 is my preferred track. Title track is not bad either. Not for CH or MH!

Now, now, let's be civil.

OK next one up is Ian Anderson's 'The Secret Language of Birds'. Will comment on this later.

Is this review really necessary? It's a Dylan composition. Could it be anything but great? Actually I did not love
more tracks than I thought, 9 of the 21. Side four is where it really got weak for me. Dylan put all the tracks
together which includes unreleased tracks from the Basement Tapes sessions, making up five of the seven tracks on
side four. Was not a big fan of that album and those tracks here turn out to be some of the weakest. A few of the
tracks I don't love might surprise you. Lay Lady Lay, The Mighty Quinn (prefer Manfred Mann), I Shall Be Released
(prefer The Band). Three Dylan tracks I love here I think are equally as good as covers, All I Really Want To Do
(Sonny & Cher), All Along The Watchtower (Hendrix) and She Belongs To me (Rick Nelson). Of course most of the songs
on this album were not really hits as I use the term. A few of his classics from those best years make up for any
sub-standard material. A great album for beginners, along with Vol 1 of course. Really puzzled by the lack of these
tracks on youtube. Some of his best, and yet not there, at least not the original versions. Must be a conspiracy.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM
