What Are You Listening To?
Blueberry Boat-The Fiery Furnaces

I really need to be in the right mood for this one, becuase it can be really annoying if I don't feel up to it, but right now, hearing it is just wonderful. So much fun and creativity, this is what more modern rock bands should be doing

Debut album from the Michigan squeaky new waver. Born of Serbian/English parents. Transplanted to England at the
age of 13. Attended art school and hung out in the London underground. Started making her own recordings, one of
which was a remake of my favorite Tommy James song, I Think We're Alone Now, which a local DJ heard and promoted to
Stiff Records. They wanted to release it as a single but needed a b-side. Lene came up with Lucky Number, which
then became the a -side and a #3 hit in England. The James cover is actually quite good. Another cover of Nick
Lowes Tonight. This album soon followed and a follow up single with Say When (#19), the only track I don't like
here. Two love tracks in Home and Telepathy. The album reached #35 in the UK, but it never charted here. A lot of
live clips from this very unique performer.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Say When

Best Track - Telepathy

I know what ya done
I saw ya in my crystal
I saw you making love
I'm gonna get my pistol

Telepathy's gonna be the death of me
Telepathy's gonna be the death of me

I know what ya done before you even do it
Don't tell me yer story I can see through it

Love is really mutual trust
Respect and understanding is a must
But my baby's mind is like a TV
And everthing I see make a fool of me

I know what you've done, yeah
You think I don't know
You been playing round with Mrs. So-And-So

Telepathy's gonna be the death of me

Oh, those little lies
Right, behind your eyes
I don't need no spies
With my ESP
You're not fooling me
But ohhhhhh, the jealousy

Love is really mutual trust
(la-la-la-la-la)
Respect and understanding is a must
(la-la-la)
But my babys' mind is like a T.V.
(ah-ha, ah-ha)
And everything I see makes a fool of me.

I know what you done, I saw you in my crystal
I saw you making love; I'm gonna get my pistol

Telepathy's gonna be the death of me
Telepathy's gonna be the death of me

COLDPLAY "parachutes" cd,2000.

debut set from the group that would topple U2 as premier "stadium rockers" a couple of years down the track...but not on this one im afraid...
sure its a good album, very good infact, still most bands would be proud to release one album of this calabre, these guys have four that better it!
this one shows lots and lots of promise and quality songwriting, but they are just not there as yet, being a debut set!

JOE JACKSON "the collection" cd,2001.

Hmmm!,
what to say about Joe?
ive always found Joe a bit difficult to place in the scheme of things...he does classical instrumentals, jazz, reggae, pop, alternative and occasionally moves into New Wave sounds, sometimes all on a single album..
i find him a bit like Ben Folds that way...
has a great reputation, great reviews of albums, interesting lyrics and songs structures, but something just doesnt sit well with me while listening to him at times.
i find he makes either bloody brilliant songs or unlistenable drivel that ive just got to press "next" to foreward to the next track, i dont find him very consistant whatsoever, but when he is good, he is bloody good IMO!
ok, 18 tracks on here spanning his late 1970s material through to the end of the 1980s...five tracks i love, seven i dont like and six that are good...so theres the contrast between the loves and dislikes straight up for you.almost as many loves and hates??!!! go figure!

i have two of his studio albums, his debut set and "night and day" from '82ish...both are reasonable efforts...maybe Joe is more of an "albums" guy than a "singles" artist, i dunno?
i just know this one rates pretty low for a best of set at 1.9, most best of sets should at least rate a 2.2/2.3 IMO...but sadly not this one!

...And Don't the Kids Just Love It-Television Personalities

A very catchy and enjoyable post punk/twee pop/jangle pop album, with some of the most adorably clumsy melodies
