I love the trees! As you know we are pretty much surrounded by only palm trees here.

pretty much spent the first few days getting to know eachother a bit better, discussing our plan of attack for the Horse-Head US Tour, listening to some vinyl albums from the vast MH collection and recovering from jetlag, after several flights and 40hrs in the air...

our first gig was up in Ohio to see if we were to be inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame, sadly we were overlooked once again by the "powers that be" and ignored!

MH's cousin showed us a real good time in Ohio, driving us around to look at the sites and even tagging along with us to the Hall Of Fame....many thanks to Darlene for taking the time out to assist us!

the shape of the R+R Hall Of Fame is quite messy, but apparently from the air it looks like a record player with arm/needle resting on a vinyl album....tried to use our imagination to visualise it, but to no avail...

the Hall Of Fame is up there in Cleveland,Ohio because that is where radio jockey Allan Freed coined the phrase "rock n roll" way back in 1954!

FIRST PIC HERE IS OF MH & MYSELF OUTSIDE THE HALL OF FAME

SECOND PIC IS OF MH & MYSELF STANDING BY THE "ZZ-TOP" CAR INSIDE THE HALL OF FAME,UNFORTUNATELY PHOTO'S ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO BE TAKEN IN THE FOYER,SO NO INTERNAL PICS WERE AVAILABLE!

THIRD PIC IS OF "NEW YORK DOLLS" ON A PRIVATE TOUR OF THE HALL OF FAME,UNFORTUNATELY THEY WOULD NOT POSE FOR PHOTO'S FOR/WITH US!!!

after spending two nights in Cleveland,Ohio MH and I drove back to central Kentucky(Ky) and spent the weekend at his house, we took a trip to Walmart, where MH buys lost of his "discount bin" cds on the saturday after listening to some albums on his stereo,on the sunday we went to his local Baptist Church for a morning service and pretty much chilled out the rest of the day outside under his big old Oak trees with sodas, cigarettes(sharing a homegrown variety)...just to relax to some more music before lanning our route to the next point of call to Nashville Tennessee on the monday.

with suitcases packed, cds stocked up for the roadtrip and a map of the Interstate highways we were off on the mammoth two and a half week sojurn through the Southern States of the US(not that we knew that at the time!)...nothing was planned except our destinations so wherever the road took us inbetween was all up to chance, no hotels booked, no nothing....just the open road and no time frame to do anything except getting to Graceland at some point...well, Graceland was my holiday priority anyway!...and MH came on pretty much an all expenses paid trip as a companion, and local authority on the US!...all the Godfather of MD had to do was read the road maps, buy me the odd coffee, donuts and supply tips wherever we ventured...MH wanted to pay his way, but he and his wife both refused to accept money for bunking down at his place so out of gratitude i told him the whole trip was "on me"!

as it was a good seven or eight hour trip by road from Hotel Paint Lick to Nashville we first stopped off at a tourist cave in south Ky to have a bit of a rest from driving and see something local, unfortunately the caves were obviously dark and photos didnt really come out too well so we have none to post....then it was on to Nashville where we got lost in the traffic, and when we stopped to ask directions from local cops to point us in the rough direction of the Grand Old Opry in order to get a motel room nearby they didnt seem to eager to help out...whatever, we made it eventually after driving in circles for at least an hour....the following pics are from in and around The Grand Old Opry which is the Mecca of country music in the US... artists know they have really made it in country music circles when they get asked to perform there, and even luckier when they are asked to become members of the Opry....
our tour guide at the Opry told us that several years ago Paul McCartney visited there and was asked to perform whilst there...he duly refused out of respect for its traditions as he is not a country singer said it wouldnt be right to do so!...

after the morning trip to the Opry, and with directions from helpful motel staff(who, wherever we went in the US were always eager to please and help us) we found our way to downtown Nashville and sometime just after lunchtime we got to The Ryman Auditorium( Neil Young filmed his 2006 "heart of gold" on stage there), the Ryman was also the original site of the original Grand Old Opry building prior to it burning down years before, strangely enough, there was a bill poster advertising the impending concert there by Elvis Costello a few weeks down the track!the Ryman is steeped in history, not only for being the original Opry building but after it was damaged all the original Oak bench seats were reinstalled/refurbished,so the basic building was rebuilt as close to the original as possible, its a lovely little concert venue with floor and balcony seating arrangements, probably holding no more than than a couple of thousand patrons at one time and was built so every patron gets an excellant view of the stage and apparently the quality of the sound comes in second to the Morman Tabernacal place in Utah.[Image: 392331_282933521763104_100001393756309_7...1382_n.jpg][Image: 408057_282934315096358_100001393756309_7...2542_n.jpg]in order to set foot on the middle of the stage at the Ryman...it cost a few bucks, but also no-one does so without either singing, dancing or performing in some way, so i took the chance and played CSNY "ohio" on acoustic guitar for the privilage...pretty sure MH thought i was stepping out from the "duo" thing to go "solo",thankfully i prefer the comfort of being on the road with the Horse-Head band and put my solo career on the backburner LOL![Image: 403657_282934695096320_100001393756309_7...0053_n.jpg]the temperature here was hovering just above 100F/38C at this time and it was bloody hot to come outside to after being in an airconditioned theatre...had to take this shot of a hot, bothered and weary MH after walking all day in the relentless southern heat of summer outside the Ryman...[Image: 403893_282936225096167_100001393756309_7...6326_n.jpg]
