Beach Wrote:OK, crucify me!
It's 8:10am Friday - August 7th, 2009 my time and I'm sitting here with a dram of Glenfiddich Single Malt typing and listening to one of the many cassettes that I made up back when Shirley and I used to travel far and wide in the car(s) that we've owned.

It is very much a mixture of styles, but there is a fairly large Jazz content. It's great driving music too!

I'm listening to yet another of Shirley's and my 'road trip' tapes - one I recorded on September 25/26, 1987 just before we left for Hervey Bay on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland - just across from Fraser Island.
I called this one Jazz for the North and the tracks are as follows:
- Endangered Species: Wayne Shorter
- Sam's Sack/Rill's Thrills: Jack Bruce
- Waltz: The Paris Reunion Band
- Just Friends: Mel Tormé and Boss Brass
- Salaam: The Bernie McGann Trio
- Kindred Spirits: The Bernie McGann Quartet
- Sunday: The Art Blakey Quartet
- Dolphy's Dance: The Bernie McGann Quartet
- Stras Fell On Alabama: Mel Tormé and Boss Brass
- Ojos De Rojos: The Cedar Walton Quartet
- Jumpin' at the Woodside: Tour De Force
- Bag's Groove: Milt Jackson
- Evidence: Bebop & Beyond
I truly miss my turntable as all of these are from Shirley's and my vinyl collection which I can no longer play because my turntable has died and I don't yet have the money to replace it. :frown:

It's a digital remix made up of performances from the two Fillmore shows that originally comprised Live at the Fillmore East and the concert portions of Eat a Peach, plus one track ("One Way Out") from a Fillmore show from a couple of months later.

Currently listening to this, and quite frankly believe that Scott Yanow (at AMG) must have had his head up his arse when he reviewed it. Believe me, the horns on the title track sound brilliant!
