![]() BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "the ghost of tom joad" cd, 1995. not your usual Boss album, more in line with folk. ive always maintained that i dislike this album and have been taken to task on a couple of occasions here by Jerome over my comments, it hasnt come out that badly this time round as i actually like it....not as high a grade as i would probably have given a multitude of other Springsteen albums but a pass mark anyway. a very sparse, depressing, dark album, sort of a concept album as each song deals with American life for either a single character of group of ficticious people, i guess this album fits very well as a companion piece to "nebraska" in that sense. cant fault the stories in the songs on this one....probably Bruce's finest lyrical effort ever...i just get a bit bored with the lack of variation in the actual musical content here. i have probably 90% of all of his albums but still manage to not totally be able to get "into" this one for some reason, and i retract the statement that it is his worst album, i now believe that honour goes to 1987's "tunnel of love" set(guess we'll see next time it gets played as to how good or bad that one is?) all up, not a bad album in hindsight and my score here actually reflects that of allmusic's 3/5(1.8) pain in the backside there are few links for this album! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: straight time best track: sinaloa cowboys tracks: 1. the ghost of tom joad ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-c6GphpAeY vevo live 2. straight time * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdUNborSaE4 audio 3. highway 29 * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db8uxbYC5uU audio 4. youngstown ** Bruce Springsteen "Youngstown" 1995 - YouTube live 5. sinaloa cowboys *** 6. the line *** 7. balboa park ** 8. dry lightning * 9. the new timer ** 10.across the border ** 11.galveston boy ** 12.my best was never good enough ** 3s=2 2s=7 1s=3 rating: 1.9

![]() THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM "the '59 sound" cd,2008. yeh ok, these guys are called "alternative" and "punk"...whatever!, but if that is the case then so is their idol "bruce springsteen"...so f#$k it, they go here IMO! the second set by these native New Yorkers...actually come from Jersey like The Boss, have a similar sound to E-Street Band, minus the 'sax', vocalist Brian Fallon even gets mistaken for Bruce by me sometimes(and im a big Bruce fan also!), their songs generally reflect everyday subject matter of everyday people and everyday lives just like most of Springsteen's material also. thats not to say they are simply clones of The Boss, they do put their own mark on their songs, but i guess growing up on the same streets as him they have seen the same things, live, breathe and feel Jersey to the bone also. they even put feeling and sentiment into their lyrics and vocals like The Boss. Springsteen loves these guys, have even made guest appearances at eachothers gigs for a traock or two...mutual respect is a wonderful thing! cant really say anything bad about this album, cant say anything great about it neither, just a steady album of good 1970s Jersey rock 'n' roll. I LIKE THIS ALBUM no worst tracks here, they are about all on par with eachother but the album closer "the backseat" and "film noir" just pip the others for best tracks IMO. tracks: 1. great expectations The Gaslight Anthem- Great Expectations With Lyrics - YouTube audio 2. the '59 sound The Gaslight Anthem & Bruce Springsteen - The '59 Sound (PROSHOT) - YouTube live with 'the boss' 3. old white lincoln The Gaslight Anthem - Old White Lincoln - YouTube audio 4. high lonesome The Gaslight Anthem - High Lonesome (live @ Rock Am Ring 2011) - YouTube live 5. film noir The Gaslight Anthem - Film Noir (with lyrics) - YouTube audio 6. miles davis and the cool The Gaslight Anthem - Miles Davis & The Cool - YouTube audio 7. the patient ferris wheel The Gaslight Anthem - The Patient Ferris Wheel - YouTube audio 8. casanova baby The Gaslight Anthem - Casanova, Baby - YouTube audio 9. even cowgirls get the blues Even cowgirls get the blues - The Gaslight Anthem '59 sound - YouTube audio 10.meet me by the river's edge The Gaslight Anthem - Meet Me By The River's Edge - YouTube audio 11.here's looking at you,kid Here's Looking At You Kid - The Gaslight Anthem - YouTube audio 12.the backseat The Gaslight Anthem - The Backseat - YouTube audio 3s=0 2s=12 1s=0 rating: 2.0

![]() COLDPLAY "X & Y" cd, 2005. their third album... i remember back in the day waiting impatiently for this, the 'new' coldplay album....was dissapointed at the time.probably due to all the hype and expectation after their brilliant "ruch of blood to the head" set...and i was real dissapointed with this one, i expected some earth shattering, mind blowing "meaning of life explained" album that would solve all our problems, i should have known better with my age and everything, but these guys were the greatest 'new' thing i had heard in a long while, well since i first heard Oasis, but their beacon dimmed rather quickly after their first two albums.... now, in hindsight, this is a fantastic album, containing all the familliar melodies, lyrics, musis that one would expect of Coldplay...guess you either like them or you dont (much like U2 IMO)...and i love these guys, they cant put a foot wrong for me. twelve tracks on here about half rate as "loves" the other half "likes", im not picking the hit singles as favourites here, rather one of their album tracks along with the 'hidden track' at the end of the disc called "til kingdom come", which is basically Chris Martin and an acoustic guitar sounding very unlike what is the textbook coldplay sound...probably because they wrote this one with Johnny Cash in mind back in 2002, unfortunately The Man In Black passed away before they could get this one to Rick Rubin to hand to him to record, thus they put it at the end of this album..as a tribute to Cash!. all up a very, very good album, pretty hard for me to say if it is their best effort, as all their albums bar their debut set would qualify IMO,,nevertheless, if you dont own this one, and i know MH has them all bar this, i would urge you to go buy it if you love Coldplay! I LOVE THIS ALBUM no worst tracks here at all, best tracks: the hardest part and/or til kingdom comes selected tracks, are the ones i rate *** the hardest part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tp0r9197uo&ob=av2e vevo video til kingdom come coldplay - til kingdom come (acoustic session) - YouTube live speed of sound Coldplay - Speed Of Sound - Glastonbury 2005 - YouTube live what if iConcerts - Coldplay - What If (live) - YouTube live fix you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI-o25K6B-E&ob=av2e vevo video swallowed in the sea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0VsvuvKT20 audio album rating: 2.4

[/URL] ![]() BOB DYLAN "slow train coming" cd,1979. the first in a trilogy of "christian" albums, showing a completely different Dylan that we were used to... not real christian or gospel music in the true sense and not even the music you would expect that theme of song to be sung in. music sounds more like something Eric Clapton would have done back in the early 1970s...light bluesy stuff, the tracks here pose a number of questions, but being Dylan he offers no answers of any kind...just some thought provoking questions. all tracks here are pretty good to brilliant with the master lyricist in fine form...not the best track but "man gave names to all the animals" is a bit of a lighthearted song as to how animals may have got their names in a way that only Dylan could express...
