There are one or two other early punk influences to look at:
The Who.................My Generation LP The Kinks early albums. Although not punk themselves ................ The early to mid 70s Marc Bolan and T.Rex is well respected by many punk bands and often cited as a major influence.
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive Oh! it wears a man down into the ground It's the strangest elation I can't describe it Oh it leaves a man weary It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

Sex Pistols "never mind the bollocks"
Clash "the clash" & "london calling" Jam "in the city" & "setting sons" PiL "public image limited" Dropkick Murphys "going out in style" Adam & The Ants "dirk wears white sox" go to youtube and search Buzzcocks, Sham 69, Siouxie & The Banshees, Ramones for an idea or two.... they also call Gaslight Anthem "punk" so try "either of their three albums. and thank you MH...Green Day....not punk in my view but try their albums also.

They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.
I admit Green Day are not all punk but a lot of other groups quoted aren't total "in your face " punk either...including the revered The Clash...!!!!...pretty tame compared to Black Flag or Dropkicks ???
Don't get me wrong ! The Clash are one of my favorite bands of all time . it's just when I listen to them I don't think Punk like I do when I listen to Misfits, Ramones or Sex Pistols....there's a distinct difference there ??? I love Time of Your Life(Wake Me Up when September's Over) song...one of my all time favorites and sentimental to me also the Live Album Awesome as **** is incredibly high energy with the crowd singing !!!!,,but they're not really rock ????? uptempo non stop rock, pop punk, pop rock, etc. whatever. The Clash were much much more than a punk band !!!imho...Anywho I'm not a big punk fan ...when I need a jolt of energy or power rush I put on punk from time to time. UK punk in the late 1970s really only lasted 12-18 months IMHO,but it left a lasting and permanant footprint in the history of rock n roll.... i am not a "punk" expert and do not claim to be.....IMO if its called punk, bands have to have the same angst, energy and streetwise outlook as the Clash and Pistols, and the Dropkick Murphy's come pretty darn close to that "idealism"
