For some reason, I just couldn't get into Grateful Dead. Not unique enough for me I guess.

Like your Zappa spree !!!..lol. Maybe Grateful Dead were very unique in the late 60s young fella !!!....lol...you have to take in consideration when this music was created not what came after it !!!!...are you listening young Matthew ?

i understand that you are a huge Zappa fan...just as i am a huge Neil Young fan....but you need to put it all in context....your "idol" may not be the 'be all and end all' of "rock music"...there are others out there just as/if not more talented whether they are "out there" or just fall into the mainstream of music.
