On the laptop.

Recommendation from Crazyman following the Horsehead Tour. Eighth album, from 1977.

Accomplished Country with a Rocky twang. Unfortunately this one didn't do much for me. There's definitely talent there, but it didn't capture my imagination, so no Buy List place for this album.

AllMusic 4/5 stars.

I bought Captain ..Kasey Chambers today. An oldie but a goodie. One of the very few albums I can honestly say I love all the songs on. Barricades and Brick Walls isnt on this album unfortunately...and that would have to be one of my all time favourites of hers!

Music Head has the same thoughts as you re:Buffett, yet his son-in-law absolutely loves JB, and this is supposed to be his best studio album??!!
this is the only studio album i have heard, i liked it, but i'll probably just get this one and a a best of set.

LORETTA LYNN "coal miners daughter",cd 2007.

sorry no cover available for this one....

Loretta is my favourite female country singer ever so this is going to score pretty high for me...Loretta could belch into a microphone, record it and i'd probably still love it LOL!.

why are all Loretta best of sets called "coal miners daughter"????, i have three of them...

anyway this is the one i bought in the discount bin the other week, only got it for "the pill" track which is not on either of the other two compilations i have.
twelve tracks here, all hits for Loretta, except for two which are covers..."crazy" & "let your love flow"...both of which seem to be staple covers of most "real" country artists,
hard to pick a favourite track here, pretty hard to go past the title track but on this occasion ive got to go for two of the other tracks that scored maximum points, including a cover of one of Patsy Cline's classics, links to my favourites are posted!

tracks:
1. hey loretta **
2. coal miners daughter ***
3. let your love flow **
4. youre looking at country **
5. ones on the way ***
6. the pill ***
7. out of my head, back in my bed ***
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQuEfbsjWCg live
8. she's got you ***
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9D7fQzIjv0 live
9. crazy **
10.they dont make 'em like my daddy ***
11.you aint woman enough ***
12.we've come a long way baby **

2s=5

GRATEFUL DEAD "american beauty" cd,1970

got this one last week from Tiggi(along with a Billie holiday boxset)...havent had time to listen to Billie as yet, so i thought i best do this one...

i had never heard a studio album by The Dead until friday when i opened the package from the UK, got this one out and played it, played it again on saturday and then again today...
this one is very similar to that of the Buffalo Springfield...a mix of country tinged folk, folk/rock all laced with a pinch of jazz and blues...
this is a fine album that sits well alongside Buffalo Springfield and CSNY IMO...
i rate this one at 2.5 on the MHRS with five tracks in the "love" and five "like" ratings...
"allmusic" rates this one 5/5...and justifiably so!

Their second album proper, from 1973.

Songs by the mighty BM, production from the mighty Lee Scratch Perry, and musical backing from the mighty Upsetters. A real alignment of the Reggae stars...

This album contains loads of the original versions of what would become Marley's major hits when he revisited them later in his career. The CD also includes a generous 10 related tracks from Perry's extensive reworkings of the album's songs.

A top Reggae album.
