![]() DEPECHE MODE "violator" cd, 1990. when i did their debut set "speak and spell" some time ago, i got sent a PM by Tiggi asking if i knew/had heard this one etc etc....well i knew it but hadnt got it so on his advice i purchased it...so thanks tiggi, a great piece of advice if i must say so myself! this is their nineth studio album, other than this one i only have their first three releases plus numerous 7" singles from throughout the 1980s...guessing i may need to go back and check out their other studio albums. this one was a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic, but alas, failed to make inroads here in Australia although the single "personal jesus" did get a fair bit of airplay on the radio at the time. some fantastic atmospheric music on this one, along with their usual intelligent lyrics. and i love the bass tones here also. dont know how they do it, but their synths do not sound dated like a lot of other 1980s bands do?! this is still a DM album, so not sure as to why it became such a huge hit commercially...guess it came along at the right time? anyway, its my second favourite depeche Mode release after their third album "construction time again" as a footnote: John Cash's version of Personal jesus is better than DM's IMO. allmusic give this one 5/5 stars... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: halo best track: clean tracks: 1. world in my eyes ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feSHxy136Dc&ob=av2n live 2. sweetest perfection *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN-5W41OA0A audio 3. personal jesus *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAtRm1IrXsw live 4. halo ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iwTCpSYKF4 live 5. waiting for the night ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3auGkKYA0 live 6. enjoy the silence *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXaZBdCfrRI video...filmed on top of the WTC 7. policy of truth *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egn2qCrF66Q&ob=av2n live 8. blue dress ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZrOZBDFiMg audio 9. clean *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAk8QvttHnk audio 3s=5 2s=4 1s=0 rating: 2.5 john cash "personal jesus"...he gives it the 'feeling' lyrics of this nature deserve!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyvFhrDzLfY audio also, wasnt sure whether to put this album here in "electronica", or 'alternative' or 'dance', as each genre fits the album IMO!

Only ever bought one Depeche Mode album. A Broken Frame. Bought it purely because I liked the front cover. Played it once and that was it. Not for me and I find their music very bland for some reason.
