Travers cites his influences as Hendrix, Page, Clapton and Beck. That could sum up his sound. Excellent rock
guitarist. Up there with Johnny Winter which some of this reminds me of. Not much of a vocalist in my view. Three
tracks here left me flat, with one great one in Dedication. This is Pat's third album and the guy's still goin'.
Showing an album in 2010. Gettin' Betta and Life In London were released as singles from here, with neither
charting, but the album reached #70. Pat's peak popularity here would come a few albums later, and a quick decline
thereafter. He may have done better in his native Canada, but not sure about that. We need some Canadian expert
here. Who would that be?
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
Worst Track - Off Beat Ride
Best Track - Dedication
this one is dedicated to the people who,
helped me make a stand, helped me make it through...
and everybody's got at least one
friend to lend a hand, and baby if you can't see that,
well you just dont understand, you just dont
understand..
so forget all the suspicion,
the foolish,selfish pride,
you got to reach down deeper for good,
you give so much a try,
and you know that is a good habit,
and once you really try,and you stand up to the top,
with a close friend by your side...lonliness is gone, yeh, yeh,
try to be ,one of those people, who can understand,
when life is never been easy,
I try to take people by the hand..
you know that i never been religious,
but it seems so bit of me..
if we could do just a little more,
means so much to me

R.E.M "out of time",cd,
not much to say about this one only that it is a true classic...
eleven absolute classics on this one...out if eleven tracks!, so seven get a love rating for me here, the other four just missout and get a like rating, although for most other groups at the time, the four likes would have been loves....a testament to the quality of early REM albums.
rating: 2.6

Fabulous guitarist is Pat ! Saw Hendrix' live show in Ottawa in 1968 at age 13 and learned the guitar in a year !!!!
He exiled from Canada early in his career to the UK and sort of settled in Florida . As far as reception in Canada I'm not sure so I would have to pass this off to Mr. Evil B !!!!!
Your Putting It Straight album is highly acclaimed from what I've read !!!! He is known for a tremendous live show .
One of my favorites by him (a little biased on this one is "Stevie" )....tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I hate that album so much. Listen to "Murmur" and then tell me it's a testament to the greatness of that band's early years

'Automatic for the People' makes 'Out of Time' sound like an amateur band. I have both of them and AFTP is 100 times better.

I've heard very little of his work, but the song title Snortin' Whisky, Drinkin' Cocaine tickled me in my youth !!

Out of Time always comes in for some stick, but I've always liked it. What's not to like ??

For me 'Losing My Religion' is absolute class. Love that track. But the rest of the album just does not stand up. It's like they found the perfect formula but could not translate it to the whole album. A kind of 'Echoes' before 'Dark Side of the Moon' kind of thing. OOT lacks the spaces between the notes that AFTP provides. Just my opinion.

i did do "automatic for the people" several weeks ago and it came out with a higher score than "out of time", and justifiably so IMO....
there is not much wrong with "out of time"(like i wrote)...but Stipe and Co....tightened the nuts and bolts, oiled the chains on AFTP for sure, no arguements here!...
Losing My Religion,Radio Song,Shiny Happy People, trhey still get ots of airplay to this day here and Losing My Religion always ends up on radio countdaowns of "greatest songs ever"

FOO FIGHTERS "wasting light" cd,2011.
yeh, yeh!, i know what youre all thinking.."these guys are alternative"....."bollocks!"...they are a rock band, "alternative" is just a lame excuse to pigeonhole artists who dont quite fit into other genres, and this may be true for Fooies...as they seem to cover hard rock, grunge, punk and straight rock all one one album, most of the time...anyway im taking a stand against "alternative"...i put REM here the other day as they would have been called a rock band before that name "alternative" was invented!
ok, enough of my rantings about genres and on with the album....
firstly of their seven studio albums, a live set and a best of set, i have four studio albums, the live and the best of set, that makes six of nine releases in my collection, thus i feel justifed and qualified to suggest that "wasting light" is their second best album(behind 1997s 'the colour and the shape').
this is a classy affair of good solid rock/heavy rock music from the get-go to the final ending of the final track...it is a blistering assault on the ears, but it has rythm, feel and melody, unfortunately there is one so-so track on here, that being the lead off single "white limo", which is their heaviest track they have ever recorded...and it does nothing for me...good video for it though in which Motorhead's Lemmy is driving round in a limosine...why they picked him to do it i dont know...dont even think he played on the track????
this album reached number one on the US/UK/CAN & Aust charts back in april or may of this year and justified IMO!
a worthy album by one of rock's finest bands over the last 20yrs, both live and in the studio!...all links bar one are live from a Letterman show...was it a special Foo Fighters show???
I LOVE THIS ALBUM!
