from my library (cd)
Have all of the bands early work on vinyl, but nothing on cd. Saw an opportunity to remedy that with this compilation for $5. How could I resist? Missing anything from my 2 favorite albums, Relayer and Tales From Topographic Oceans, but I'll take what I can get. Also nothing from Drama and Tormato which were released before this and after Going For The One, the last album that anything here is from. Inclusion of Chris Squires The Fish is the only throw away for me. Sorry, instrumental fans. Live versions of Roundabout and I've Seen All Good People close the album out and do justice to the studio release. All in all, a fair representation of the groups most popular work.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
Worst Track - The Fish
Best Track - Long Distance Runaround
Long distance run around
long time waiting to feel the sound
I still remember the dream there
I still remember the time you said goodbye
did we really tell lies
letting in the sunshine
did we really count to one hundred
Cold summer listening
hot colour melting the anger to stone
I still remember the time you said goodbye
did we really tell lies
did we really count to one hundred

^I can salute that ..................Yes are one of my favourites ! By the way , what is the qualirty of CD like most of the early albums on Atlantic are poor CD transfers, only The Rhino reissues seem to have been well remastered !
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

Oh here we go into the gloomy past - Ummagumma - have a feeling this one won't make it all the way through to the end of the disc. There's only so much a human can take!

The closing volume from the set, recorded in 1971 in NY.
There was a 15-year gap between volume 2 and this one. They were sidetracked by the 36-volume Dick's Picks series...
This is another featuring Pigpen, but was closeish to his demise. Recorded after a fairly lengthy lay-off from live performance, this one sits between their lysergic early music, and the more mellow material they focussed on later. It's a straight ahead R&R album, and is a delight.
Can't have too much live GD !!
AllMusic 3+/5 stars.
