Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

We have had this problem before..........MH and I had it...........the servers depend upon where you are in the world and read your IP. As I'm in Europe it is OK but for some reason they will not let you download it in The USA............The best thing is to take the album title and artist , feed it into a search engine and look for a free download which you can access.
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

Dave Stewart………..The Blackbird Diaries

Dave Stewart of The Eurthymic’s fame is the subject of our 60th album review……….The cover alone is enough to make one feel upbeat about this one ……………The “Joker” dropped in to lend a hand too.

Track One So Long . Drums and electric guitar open, the beat is steady and the song builds slowly, The lyrics go I remember……………and Dave does……………A kind of 2011 Blues song, with a modern feel. There are Rolling Stones backing vocals here, if not in person, then in feel.

Track Two Beast Called Fame A heavy riff leads us into this track, I can still feel the present of the Glimour twins , It’s a grinding track with plenty of feel and good guitar work

Track Three Magic In The Blues This reminds me of the travelling Willburies at the start and soon evolves into a Dylanesque track……………Clever lyrics and a great sneer ! Half way through there is a nod to The Beatles with the “I Want You” riff from Abbey Road………so far. I’m really enjoying this one.

Track Four All Messed Up We get a guest star here……..Martina McBride! Nice gentle duet…..a good contrast to the first the tracks.

Track Five Stevie Baby This is a more pop orientated track, simple, direct lyrics and quite melodic.

Track Six Cheaper Than Free This track features Stevie Nicks: It’s a smoldering start, followed up by a tight vocal duet. Slow and gentle.

Track Seven The Gypsy Girl And Me Another track with a great hook and a Dylan feel, this is another well written song that gets you hooked quickly.

Track Eight One Way Ticket, To The Moon Spanish style introduction phasing into a deep, slow and satisfying vocal reminded me a bit of Dire straits on Brothers In Arms. We get a guest appearance from the Secret Sisters too!

Track Nine Bulletproof Vest Colbie Caillat guests on this track. A slow ballad here, stylist and lyrically well thought out!

Track Ten Worth The Waiting For Even paced song , almost easy listening: Dylan style rasp in the vocals adds character ……………..There is even a bit of soul in there too!

Track Eleven The Well An interesting beginning to this quiet but powerful song. Good lyrics and a country rhythm provide excellent entertainment.

Track Twelve Country Wine Back with the Secret Sisters and another good country track!

Track Thirteen Can’t Get You Out Of My Head A pop song to finish with ! A blues theme to the lyric and a good hook round things off well!

A good listen this one, varied in style and mature lyrically plus, it has a great cover.:biggrin1:Cool

I got a download of the album and totally agree with Gryphon's review. An all round good listen.

I didn't really know what to expect from Dave Stewart as I am not familiar with his solo work only his collaboration with Annie Lennox in the Eurythmics. I knew he is a very talented musician and songwriter as well as record producer.

I listened to this album intently and I found it overproduced and somewhat slick. I didn't care for the backup vocals(Secret Sisters) or Dave's voice. A bit too poppy for my taste in certain spots. It's difficult for me to dis this album because Gryp's choices are superb and very classy !!!!!

The cover is very cool !

Interesting to see what the group Super Heavy with Mick Jagger and Joss Stone will bring ????
What were his collaboration recordings like with Mick previously ?

Perhaps I have to give it another listen as this was listened to after I was blown away by Johnny Flynn. I write about his Been Listening album in the Folk Music thread.
