Anyone know any good female blues/rock singers?
#1
I've recently got into the genre of blues oriented rock and was wondering if anyone knew any female singers of the style. I'm hoping for something along the lines of Sandi Thom's Merchants and Thieves album, not really looking for any Etta James style singers. Smile

Bonnie Raitt might fit the bill. Not sure how similar to Sandi Thom she is, though...

Look into Magna Carta's later albums..............Linda Simpson is an excellent singer
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Here's a few more to try:

Sass Jordan - How Do I get It Right (w/ Don Was) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9U9AjXVA...re=related
Alannah Myles - Song Instead Of A Kiss - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCFdYi9C_94
Joan Osbourne - St. Theresa - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbAeTywPiP4
Rachael Yamagata - Worn Me Down -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8V6Y3YjBAI

Is it the style of the music, the vocal quality that Sandi Produces? Which song on the album is the "best example" of the sound you are looking for?

Hope at least one of these ladies is a hit for you, they all are very talented.

Mamie Smith has the distinction of being the first African-American to record a vocal blues.
